The Hope Jar invites you to explore & reflect on your relationship with hope while creating an object that will 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶.
First, you decorate the jar as the vessel for your hopes, considering how you would want your hopes preserved. Both the process & product of the jar is a point for reflection & discussion.
Then, you write down your hopes, ones you have for yourself and/or others, and place them in the jar. This step may be more difficult or easy depending on your relationship with hope - for some, hope may come easily. For others, hope may feel distant or even dangerous. But, it’s important not to hold back here - 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘣𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳 “𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘤” - 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳.
When the jar is complete & your hopes are tucked inside, it’s up to you what you do with it. Whether you display the jar where you can see it frequently or hide it away, you will know that your hopes are being kept & preserved in a safe place for you.
This directive could be done independently; however, I recommend working with an art therapist who could support you in discussing and processing the directive and what it may bring up for you, especially if you are struggling to have hope.
