As a therapist in private practice, I get quite a few questions about the counseling process and what it’s like to begin therapy. One common misconception that I hear often is that you have to be in crisis or have a problem that is severely impacting your life and functioning to “need” therapy.

I’m hear to tell you as a licensed professional that, thankfully, that is NOT the case. Your problems or struggles don’t have to be “bad enough” to find benefit from therapy. Most of us could benefit from therapy at some point in our lives.

People seek therapy for many different reasons. Yes, sometimes there is a crisis. Therapy can also be preventative and help build positive coping skills to deal with stress and other symptoms before they reach crisis level. I’ve also worked with many clients who seek therapy simply to better understand themselves and for personal growth.

Whatever your goals are, therapy could be a tool to help. It doesn’t mean you’re “flawed” or “sick” or “weak”. It can be a great option to help you remain balanced and healthy.

If you have specific questions on counseling and whether it might be helpful in your situation, use the link in my bio to reach out.

I spent some time this weekend in a sea of tulips at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Seeing and exploring other beautiful and interesting plants was a great way to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. One of my favorite forms of self care in recent years is exploring new places and things. The world around us is always changing. We can learn so much by taking the time to stop and really enjoy it. What new places have you explored recently?

Authenticity is a topic that frequently comes up in my sessions with clients. I believe that when we can show up more authentically in the world, we FEEL better. Less hiding, less pretending, and less fixating on what others think of us can have a huge impact on our emotional well-being. Authenticity involves risk, but it can also bring great rewards, deeper relationships and more self acceptance. What is your biggest struggle with authenticity, and how can you practice it today?

Empowering clients to make meaningful changes towards mental health and well-being.

The Center for Transformation and Renewal was founded in 2018 by Brittany Hopkins, MS, LPC, NCC with the vision of empowering clients to make meaningful changes towards mental health and well-being. Brittany believes in providing a safe, non-judgemental space for clients to pursue whole person healing - mind, body and spirit. She works closely with clients to establish and clarify their goals for the counseling process and to identify ways to move towards achieving those goals.
