Emma Watson. You probably know her as the actress who played Hermione in Harry Potter. The other day, she attended the BAFTA award ceremony and she had her introduction by Rebel Wilson who described her as a feminist and also a 'witch'.
Emma walked out and the first thing she said is, 'I'm here for all the witches.' 👏👏👏 What an amazing subtle way to show support to trans women.
If you aren't aware, the author of Harry Potter, JK Rowling has been in the news lately for her continued commentary showing a lack of support for trans women as being 'real' women.
This hit hard. Many HP fans had to really look at the situation and decide what they wanted. Do I cut out all JK Rowling support? Not support the author further, but keep my books? Throw it all away?
I'm not here to tell you what is right. I think it all has to do with what makes you feel good and what feels right. To me, Emma did that today. We can't take away that she played an amazing character. We can't uncast her, but she CAN (and did) show that she supports ALL women. Way to go.
PS. Some trolls came at Emma and her appearance and we are NOT here for that.
