I just read an article by a dietitian who is 60+ and she had some interesting recommendations for supplements: Vitamin D capsules, a probiotic for gut health, calcium tablets and magnesium. Most people have low levels of Vitamin D according to Mayo Clinic; you can't get Vitamin D from sunshine. Sunshine only converts dietary D2 into its active form: D3. If you have gut problems, a probiotic can help regularity. Few people get enough calcium in their diets; while milk and some other dairy products are high in calcium, you won't absorb the calcium without the milk fat. Magnesium helps to regulate cardiac rhythm; again, few people eat enough of the foods high in magnesium. One more word about calcium: the mineral vitamin has 3 positive ions and most medications have negative ions. If you take the calcium within 1.5-2 hours of taking a medication, the calcium will bind with the medication and your medication won't work.
