Because sometimes it just doesn’t register until it happens to someone you know, love, or a beloved character on a show that you’re obsessed with…..
*spoiler alert*
The mid season finale of Greys Anatomy ended with a cancer diagnosis for Dr Weber, and just before the end credits, Shondaland left time for an incredibly important announcement from James Pickens Jr, the real life man behind Richard Webber. That announcement included guidelines for men to be screened for prostate cancer, and a plea to make it part of your healthcare. You see, it’s detected easily with a blood test, and has an incredibly high survival rate when it’s caught early.
So while we wait for the return of the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, please make sure the men in your life are getting their cancer screenings done!
Shortly after revealing he was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year, 'Grey's Anatomy' star James Pickens Jr. announced that he is cancer free.
"Hi Friends, I’m blessed and grateful to be cancer-free," the actor wrote in a social media announcement. "Thanks so much for all the love and support! Get checked!”
James — whose character, Dr. Webber, was also diagnosed with cancer — opened up about his health in an interview with Black Health Matters.
“I started getting my annual physical 34 years ago. And I started my PSA testing when I was 41; I’m 73 now," James explained. "My urologist said, ‘Because you were so diligent in that piece of your health, it was to your advantage. We were able to catch it so early because you were being tested.'” (📸: Disney)
