Hello friends! I’m happy to announce that I am officially certified in Pediatric Bowel and Bladder (aka Pelvic Floor Therapy for our tiny friends) 🀩🫢🏻

I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, I needed a social media break while I worked on this exciting new addition to Sunshine PT β˜€οΈ

Don’t worry, I will still be seeing and posting tips for my ladies πŸ₯° However, pediatrics is one of my loves and I’m so excited to be able to combine that into my pelvic health practice. So you are going to see more about both ladies and kiddos! πŸŽ‰

Question about what pelvic floor therapy for kiddos entails? Comment below πŸ‘‡ and let me know!

🚨🚨 Do not do it!!🚨🚨

News flash: Your lady area knows how to keep itself clean. Crazy, right? Not what you were taught? 🫣 Well, did you know that studies have shown women who use feminine hygiene products have a 3.5x higher chance of having a bacterial infection and 2.5x higher chance of developing a urinary tract infection. πŸ₯΄

Your skin down there is very delicate and contains numerous glands that both protect and clean the skin. All you need to do is rinse with lukewarm water. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Soaps, shower gels, powders, douches, perfumes, etc. will likely make whatever symptoms you are having worse. However, if you feel like you want to put more than water down there, I would highly suggest talking to your provider based on your individual needs. πŸ‘

In the meantime, here are some of my favorite tips to keep in mind, in addition to not using those fancy products, for a healthier you:
- Only use soft, unscented, plain toilet paper
- Limit extremely cold or extremely hot water down there
- Only use 100% cotton menstrual products
- Do not wear pantyliners daily
- Ensure your underwear are made of cotton
- Make sure any lubricant you use is water-based
- Don't hang out in wet or sweaty clothing
- Use detergents for sensitive skin
- Drink lots of water and ensure you are getting enough fiber
- Strive to keep a happy bladder (scroll back to my old posts!)

2023, you were quite the ride. πŸ€ͺ This year, I found my place as a pediatric physical therapist and started Sunshine Physical Therapy LLC where I’ve been establishing myself as a cash based pelvic floor physical therapist. I love that I chose to pursue a field where I can be versatile and treat both of the populations I love. 🫢🏻

I’ve learned so much this year and grown immensely as not only a physical therapist, but also a wife, daughter, friend, and child of God. 🩷

In 2024, I have big goals for my small side business. I want to obtain my specific pregnancy and postpartum certifications (my passion already) and learn more about pediatric pelvic health. I want to grow my business through making more professional and personal connections. My ultimate goal is helping as many women as possible to achieve their best self! πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Thank you for supporting me on this journey. I can’t wait to see what next year holds! If you’re interested in starting out your new year by taking care of YOU and want to know how Pelvic PT may play a part in that, DM me or comment below. 🌸

In 2024, may we be empowered together. 🀩

Did you know that your foot posture 🦢 can contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction?! 🀯 Crazy!! I bet when you hear "pelvic floor physical therapy", looking at the feet is not the first thing that usually comes to mind... but it could be the obvious missing link!

Swipe right to learn more about the connection and see some beneficial exercises to try! πŸ₯³

If you have a collapsed arch or a "flat foot" on only one side, this can cause your pelvis to tilt to that side... if you have it on both sides, your pelvis could tilt forwards. If you are wearing shoes with higher heels , your pelvis will tilt forward. The list could go on... but these are 2 of the more common examples. I'm not even going to get into all the joint mechanics, length-tension relationships, etc. πŸ€ͺ

Find you some supportive shoes with a wide toe box, the heel ~1 inch above the toes, and good arch support (running shoes tend to be a great start, even if you don't run)! πŸ‘Ÿ Additionally, check in with your posture occasionally. How do my feet look? Am I "knock-kneed"? Is my back arching and core not engaged? Are my shoulders rounded? Is my head far forward?πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ

^^^Let's start there, try a few of the exercises, and book a consult with a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist to see if your feet are a missing part of the puzzle in taking control of your symptoms today! πŸ’ͺ🌼

Getting close to the end of your pregnancy and wondering how you can reduce the risk of tearing and episiotomies AND have a quicker recovery? 🧐 Let's talk perineal massage! πŸ₯³

The perineum is the small area between your vaginal opening and a**s that has to do significant stretching during childbirth. 🫣

There are multiple ways this massage can be done. I prefer to teach my patient's to use a pelvic wand (Intimate Rose is my go to); however, you can also perform it on yourself and/or have your partner help you.🀰 Swipe right to see a brief overview of the how! 🌸

Why perineal massage? πŸ‘€ It's been proven time and time again that women who perform this technique from ~35 weeks gestation onward have less pain, decreased tearing and episiotomies, and a quicker delivery overall! 🀩

Just make sure you have some unscented water-based lubricant, clean hands and/or a clean silicone-based wand, pillows to make you comfortable, and a mirror to see what you are doing. πŸ‘

Questions? Comment below πŸ‘‡ or DM me to set up a free phone consult today to talk about how Pelvic PT can benefit you! 🌷

*Please do not perform this technique until after 34 weeks* This is just general information, you should always consult your provider first.

Let's together. πŸ’ͺ
