😑 Back, hip, thigh or leg pain keeping you from living your best life?
⚡️ Anyone who has had sciatica knows it could be anything from a dull ache in your low back through the dreaded electric shock down the back of your leg.
🪢 The tension in your fascia can pinch the nerve and create pain signals which limit movement and prevent you from potential further harm.
🔁 This loop gets us stuck in a chronic pain pattern and over time doesn't allow stretching, walking and basic movement from keeping us limber.

🦸 Enter the Rolfer! We look at your whole body to find patterns of tension which limit your full range of motion and cause extra stress on your joints. Sometimes the limited area is not the place where you wind up feeling all the pain.

🩹 Traditional therapies tend to focus directly on the painful area and do not always address systemic limits in movement. This approach is more like a band aide; it could be beneficial in the short term and rarely does much to give you long term pain relief.

💊 And then there are the dreaded medications. While some may be absolutely necessary to our health, a lot of them treat the symptom and not the actual problem. And with all the information about liver damage and addiction, this is hardly the best option.

🏃 Find out more about how Rolfing can help you overcome your chronic pain by scheduling your next visit!

THE SPIRAL LINE: HOW FASCIA CONTROLS YOUR FOOT ARCH

The human body doesn’t function in isolated muscles—it operates through integrated fascial chains, and one of the most important yet overlooked systems is the spiral line. This line wraps around the body in a helical pattern, connecting the shoulders, trunk, pelvis, and lower limbs all the way down to the foot. Its primary role is to manage rotational control, balance, and force transfer across the body.

From a biomechanical perspective, the spiral line plays a critical role in controlling the medial longitudinal arch of the foot. It links trunk rotation with lower limb alignment and ultimately determines whether your arch is supported or collapses under load. This means your foot posture is not just a local issue—it is a reflection of whole-body mechanics.

The muscles shown in the image—particularly tibialis posterior and fibularis (peroneus) longus—act as dynamic stabilizers of the arch. Tibialis posterior contributes to lifting and supporting the arch, while fibularis longus provides a counterbalance by stabilizing the first ray and distributing load across the foot. Together, they create a tension system that maintains structural integrity during movement.

When the spiral line is functioning efficiently, there is a balanced interaction between internal and external rotational forces. This allows the arch to behave like a spring—absorbing shock during loading and recoiling during push-off. The fascia stores elastic energy and releases it, making gait efficient and reducing muscular fatigue.

However, when there is dysfunction higher up the chain—such as poor trunk rotation, pelvic instability, or hip weakness—the spiral line loses its tension balance. This leads to altered force transmission, often resulting in excessive pronation (arch collapse) or, in some cases, a rigid high arch. In both scenarios, the foot is no longer adapting efficiently to ground forces.

The key takeaway is that your arch is not just controlled by your foot muscles. It is influenced by a global system of fascial tension that starts from the upper body and spirals downward. This is why local treatments alone often fail—because the root cause may lie in rotational control deficits at the hip or trunk.

In movement, especially walking and running, the spiral line ensures that rotation is translated into forward propulsion while maintaining stability. If this system is compromised, the body compensates by overloading specific tissues, leading to pain, inefficiency, and increased injury risk.

Check me out on Monday!!

✨ Monday Night with Mike! ✨

This Monday, Lindsey will be out in the community speaking up about an important issue in Lee County, so we’re excited to have Mike from Freedom Rolfing stepping in to lead our Monday class.

Mike is a Rolfing Structural Integrator who works out of the studio several days a week helping people reconnect with their bodies and release long-held tension patterns. Because of the incredible demand for his work, Mike has expanded his hours in March and will be seeing clients four days a week.

Mike has also taught mindful movement practices in the federal prison system, worked with our veteran community, and teaches a portion of our Empowerment Protocol.

🧐So what is Mindful Movement?

Think of it as movement meditation.

You’ll explore gentle movement, breathwork, and body awareness exercises designed to help you reconnect with your body and stay present—even when life feels stressful or overwhelming.

Not quite yoga.
Not quite meditation.
But a beautiful blend of both.

If traditional meditation feels challenging, this class can be a powerful way to experience mindfulness through the body.

Come move, breathe, and reconnect.

We’re excited to have Mike share his knowledge and presence with the community.

Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds and links everything in your body. It’s a continuous, responsive system that helps transmit force, support posture, and coordinate movement.

When fascia becomes restricted from injury, stress, or long-held patterns, it can limit mobility and pull the body out of alignment.

When fascia moves well, the whole body moves well.
