Happy Labor Day- a U.S. federal holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It was created to honor the contributions of American workers and the labor movement. It began in the late 19th century during the labor union movement, which fought for fair wages, safe working conditions, and reasonable working hours. The first Labor Day parade was held in New York City in 1882.

Official Holiday: Congress made it a federal holiday in 1894.

It is still meant to honor all of our workers, but it’s also seen as the unofficial end of summer in the U.S., with many families enjoying parades, barbecues, and gatherings.

Fun fact: In fashion tradition, it was once considered a rule not to wear white after Labor Day (though that’s not really followed anymore!)
