Shaq pulled up to Mike Tyson's Nevada mansion, invited over by the heavyweight champ himself. The young Lakers center rang the doorbell and stepped inside when no one answered.
""Mike?"" he called out.
That's when he heard it, claws clicking on marble, coming from upstairs. Shaq looked up just as a white tiger came bounding down the staircase, golden eyes locked on him.
Time froze. Four hundred pounds of apex predator stood between him and the door, muscles coiled, tail twitching. Shaq's seven-foot frame pressed against the wall as every survival instinct screamed.
""KENYA!"" Tyson's voice exploded from the top of the stairs.
But the tiger wasn't listening. It stepped toward Shaq, rumbling deep in its throat.
That's when Tyson did something that would replay in Shaq's nightmares forever, he dove straight off the stairs at the tiger.
Man and beast crashed to the floor in a violent tangle. Tyson wrapped his arms around the massive head as they rolled across marble, smashing furniture. Kenya's claws scraped for purchase while Tyson found pressure points like he'd done this a thousand times.
""I got you, baby,"" Tyson whispered.
Gradually, impossibly, the tiger calmed. Tyson cradled its head like an oversized house cat, both covered in crystal dust.
""Sorry about that,"" Tyson said to the trembling Shaq. ""She gets excited with company.""
Shaq stared at this heavyweight champion petting a tiger in his living room, his entire frame shaking.
""You just..."" Shaq's voice cracked. ""I wish I had a million dollars to bet on that fight.""
Tyson grinned that gap-toothed smile. ""What fight? We weren't fighting. Were we, Kenya?""
The tiger licked his face with a dinner plate-sized tongue.
""She sleeps in my bed sometimes,"" Tyson said casually. ""Had to build another house for the other three tigers, two lions, and the bobcat. You want to meet them?""
Standing there with crystal crunching under his size-22 sneakers, Shaq realized he'd just learned something no basketball success could teach:
*This man just stopped a full-grown tiger with his bare hands. There were levels to this game he'd never imagined.*
And Mike Tyson was playing by rules only he understood.
