Service Corporation International (SCI) and its major brand, Dignity Memorial®, the nation’s largest provider of funeral, cemetery and cremation services, pledged its support to veteran and active duty military member employees by joining the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) Statement of Support Program Thursday. In a ceremony held at SCI’s corporate office, representatives from the Department of Defense and SALUTE, SCI’s veteran associate resource community, were all in attendance at the signing of the Statement of Support, which was signed by Tom Ryan, chairman and chief executive officer of SCI. Army Spc. Ariel Lopez, an embalmer and reservist, represented SCI’s many military associates and was recognized at the event for his service. Johnny Salinas, Marine Corps veteran and funeral services assistant, was also in attendance representing SCI’s veteran community

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

The Hispanic Heritage observance began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson, and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30 day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15.
