Planned Parenthood WIC

Planned Parenthood WIC WIC — the Women, Infants, and Children program — is a nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers, and young children eat well and stay healthy.

The WIC program joined Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties in 1995 to provide women and their families with nutrition education to promote healthy lives. Currently, our WIC services are being offered only in Orange County. Through WIC, families receive a variety of comprehensive nutrition programs, including:

• Providing nutritious supplemental food vouchers for WIC-approved foods, such as cheese, milk, and cereals

• Helping women find prenatal care, health insurance, family planning options, and general medical care for the mother and child

• Providing nutrition education classes to promote healthy eating and active living

• Promoting and encouraging breastfeeding

• Offering clients health and nutrition education from Registered Dietitians, Nutrition Education Counselors, and Certified Lactation Educators

Did you know? Not only can you spend your WIC Fruits and Vegetables Benefit at the grocery store, but you can also use it at WIC authorized farmers’ markets. Make sure to update your card to be able to do so. 🧑‍🌾🥦🍓❤️

Remember: The QR code on the WIC Card is used at farmers’ markets only,
while the magnetic stripe on the back of the card is used at grocery stores.

You can find WIC approved farmers market online at WICFarmers.ca.gov, MyFamily website or the California WIC app.

October is SIDS Awareness Month — and it’s the perfect time to spread awareness that can save lives. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is heartbreaking, but many deaths are preventable.

Let’s remember the ABC’s of Safe Sleep:

✅ A – Alone
Your baby should always sleep alone in their own sleep space — no pillows, blankets, toys, or even stuffed animals. Sharing a room is great, but not the same bed.

✅ B – Back
Always place your baby on their back to sleep — for naps and nighttime. It’s the safest position to keep their airway open and reduce the risk of SIDS.

✅ C – Crib
Your baby should sleep in a crib, bassinet, or pack n play with a firm mattress and a fitted sheet. No extras. A clear crib is a safe crib!

These simple steps can make a huge difference in keeping babies safe while they sleep.

___________________ Octubre es el Mes de Concientización sobre El Síndrome de Muerte Súbita del Bebé (SIDS) y es el momento perfecto para crear conciencia y así salvar vidas. El síndrome de muerte súbita del bebé (SIDS) es desgarrador, pero se pueden prevenir.

Recordemos los principios básicos del sueño seguro:

✅ A – Acostado Solo
Tu bebé siempre debe dormir solo en su propio espacio, sin almohadas, mantas, juguetes ni peluches. Compartir habitación es genial, pero no la misma cama.

✅ B – Boca arriba
Siempre coloca a tu bebé boca arriba para dormir, tanto para las siestas como por la noche. Es la posición más segura para mantener sus vías respiratorias abiertas y reducir el riesgo de SIDS.

✅ C – Cuna
Tu bebé debe dormir en una cuna, moisés o corralito con un colchón firme y una sábana ajustable. Sin extras. ¡Una cuna vacía es una cuna segura!

Estos sencillos pasos pueden marcar una gran diferencia para mantener a los bebés seguros mientras duermen.

Find someone to talk to about your feelings: a doctor, nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, another parent, or WIC staff. Know that your feelings are real, important, and common. 🫂❤️

Talk to your health care provider or ask WIC staff for resources.
Your health care provider can help you find treatments (such as counseling or medication) that
could work for you.
