This is a message from CalOptima Health -

"More than 310,000 low-income Orange County residents — mostly older adults and children — receive CalFresh (known federally as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP) to help them buy healthy food. However, due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, CalFresh benefits will be delayed in November.

CalOptima Health wants CalFresh recipients with questions to call 2-1-1 or visit 211oc.org to be connected to food, housing and utility resources.

November benefits are anticipated to be retroactively issued when the shutdown is resolved.

Although CalFresh cases will not be closed due to the federal government shutdown, recipients are urged to continue meeting all mandatory reporting requirements, including requests for verification, submitting SAR7 semi-annual reports and completing renewals on time to ensure benefits can continue promptly when funding resumes.

Funding for CalWORKs and Medi-Cal benefits is currently secured through the end of 2025."

With October being Domestic Violence Awareness month, we want to introduce , a fellow non-profit that ignites social change by educating Orange County to recognize relationship violence as an issue that threatens everyone, advocating for those affected by abuse, extending a safe place for victims, and empowering survivors on their journey of healing.

They are offering a Personal Empowerment Program (PEP), which is a 2-hour, ten (10) week psychoeducational group designed to provide survivors of domestic violence or those at risk for domestic violence with the education and empowerment to build healthy relationships and decrease and/or prevent abuse in intimate relationships.

PEP is for adults ages 18+. Classes are provided virtually via Zoom and/or in-person. To Register use the QR code in the flyer or visit www.humanoptions.org

With October being domestic violence awareness month, we wanted to highlight our Thriving Relationships program at MOMS.

This program provides education and support for women who are at risk of or currently experiencing domestic or intimate partner violence or who have experienced it in the past.

Participants meet with a specially trained Maternal Child Health Worker to learn relationship red and green flags, the impact of relationship violence on children, and to connect them to other resources including housing, legal services, therapy, and support for their children, if needed.

Our team of case workers, nurse case managers, and program staff have completed extensive training to help women develop resilience and build skills for coping with life’s challenges.

MOMS in the field...

Our very own Maternal Child Health Worker, Claudia Franco, was honored to be one of the featured speakers on the ECM Best Practices Panel at 's ECM Cohort 3 Graduation Luncheon this week.

As ECM Academy alumni and contracted ECM providers, MOMS brought our expertise as leaders in the space to this informal panel discussion, sharing some best practices, lessons learned and general experiences related to ECM program implementation.

More specifically, Claudia was able to present a unique perspective as a “Lead Care Manager” that works directly with clients.

We are proud of Claudia and grateful for the opportunity to collaborate and share our expertise with this CalOptima ECM Cohort.
