Sixty years ago today St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital opened, but the dream of St. Jude started well before February 4, 1962. It began with Danny Thomas and a willingness to give back to the country that had given him so much. Today, we celebrate Danny's legacy of gratitude and appreciation. We cheer the many researchers, doctors and staff who push the boundaries of science to save the lives of children around the globe.

We honor all St. Jude patients, past and present. And we give thanks to our loyal supporters for making our mission possible. Because of you, St. Jude is able to expand in scope and extend its lifesaving mission to help more children around the world.

Un día como hoy, en 1962, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital abrió sus puertas, pero el sueño de Danny Thomas empezó mucho antes del 4 de febrero hace 60 años. Tough, tenacious, and full of talent, 17-year-old St. Jude patient Andrew aka 'Bulldog,' defies the odds of beating cancer and joins the baseball team. "Baseball means everything to me," Andrew said. "When I got out of surgery I couldn't really lift my left arm. The skin was really tight where the scar was, but I just kept doing my PT (physical therapy). I got to get through it. Not playing baseball was like not an option."

When St. Jude Patient Evan was six, he never wanted to be labeled as the "kid with cancer." But awareness of his cancer treatment quickly spread to the US Military community after a chance encounter between his mother and a stranger who happened to be stationed at Ft. Leavenworth, KS.

Their team Heroes Latinos was the top fundraising team in the last Seattle Rock n' Roll Marathon event! Today we want to recognize the brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. This chapter of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity helps raise funds and volunteers in support of the dream of Danny Thomas, founder of St. Jude and TKE member: No child should die in the dawn of life.® We always look forward to having the brothers join us to answer phones and support our events in Oahu. Cathy has supported St. Jude for over 40 years, including event production and creating awareness in Hawaii. Cathy has been a big part of the success of the St. Jude Walk/Run program in Honolulu. Cathy feels that that no child should have to go through treatment alone and without support. This is why she continues to support St. Jude where no family ever receives a bill for treatment, travel housing or food so all they have to worry about is helping their child live.
