In recent months, we have introduced low water content contact lenses to better serve patients with dry or sensitive eyes. Many of our patients are active seniors in their 70s and 80s, and it is normal for tear volume and tear quality to decrease with age.
Since switching to these advanced lenses, many patients report improved comfort and consistent all-day performance. This has been especially beneficial for those who previously experienced dryness and discomfort with traditional contact lenses.
We have also found that patients in their 20s through 60s often spend 6–8 hours or more each day working on computers. While a person normally blinks every three seconds, computer users may blink only once every 8–10 seconds. This reduced blinking can contribute to dryness and impact contact lens comfort and performance.
Low water content lenses are becoming increasingly popular because they help maintain moisture and comfort throughout the day. They are available in prescription powers ranging from +20.00 to -20.00 diopters and can also correct astigmatism.
If you or a family member would like to experience the benefits of these lenses for dry or sensitive eyes, we invite you to call our office. Our 2026 appointment schedule has many openings. Start the New Year with clear vision and healthy eyes!
