Las Fiestas del Rancho was another sacred reunion. I reunited with friends and family and the land. I saw my favorite aunt, mi Tía Carmen, siempre fiel. She made us feel safe as children when we were unsafe. She makes everyone feel at home in her home. She is a guerrera and the matriarch. My father’s sister. She tried to make up for his faults. Gracias Tía 🙏🏽 Nice try 💜 forever indebted to her 👑
That was then…. this is now. We only have the now.

The best part of this trip was having one on one, OR small group, intimate conversations with the locals when we were not at the festivities. We can only connect so much in crowds of people or at church or the parties, while the banda plays. But when 2-3 people have a moment, miracles happen. I’m grateful and blessed to have had this opportunity to reconnect, heal and learn, to love and forgive, to nourish the body and soul in the motherland. Gracias Ximalhuacan 🇸🇳🙏🏽🤠

There’s a temple near Berkeley where I spent a whole day in the presence of divine people wanting to serve. They are genuine and generous people who don’t preach or pray for you. And if they do, they teach by example and with silence. I was fed twice there. I napped there. I meditated and did yoga. I helped in the kitchen for about an hour or so. I felt right at home. I know some familiar faces from YouTube, but don’t know names. Grateful for the opportunity to be there where I had the opportunity to speak with elder women. Wise ones. Quiet ones. Educated ones. Young ones. That day, I understood a culture that separates women from men and I found it very respectful of them to do so. Learning to not judge, not even the good. Just be still and know that God is with you always and ALL WAYS... That’s what they taught me. I want to be like them.

I thought I was going to go have a scoop of vegan ice cream with some old friends... but what I got instead was so healing and inspirational. I recently ran into an old church friend at the Payan x workouts in downtown Santa Ana, whom I looked up to as a kid. She asked if I wanted to go get ice cream about 10 days after reuniting so we could catch up. I agreed and we met up. Her husband joined us. This couple were leaders in the church when I was 12 years old maybe. To hear them agree with me when we talked about how rigid that church was, I can’t even begin to tell you what this means. I told them that this was a miracle and that I felt some healing to hear them confirm what I always knew was a wrong approach for any rebellious teenager. Wow! The cherry on the top was that they explained what they do for additional income and introduced me to the many ways one can bring in extra passive income while taking it a little easier and enjoying life and loved ones more!!! I am so grateful for this scared reunion. We’ll have a bigger reunion soon! 🙏🏽
