At Lucid Therapeutics, we already harness the neuroplasticity-boosting power of ketamine through Spravato®, a form of esketamine (a chemical cousin of ketamine) that is FDA-approved specifically for treatment-resistant depression.

🤔 What’s the Difference Between Ketamine and Esketamine?

Ketamine is a racemic mixture—meaning it contains two mirror-image molecules: R-ketamine and S-ketamine (esketamine).

Spravato® contains only esketamine, the S-isomer. Research has shown that esketamine is more potent and may act faster in reducing depression symptoms.

Unlike ketamine (which is typically delivered via IV or injection), Spravato is administered as a nasal spray in a clinical setting under strict safety protocols (REMS program).

Spravato works on the same glutamate and NMDA receptor systems described in the Vanderbilt study. While BCI is not available for use, this research strengthens our understanding of how and why ketamine-based therapies work, and highlights the need for ongoing innovation and integration support.
