This summer, Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital celebrated the 40th anniversary of Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp, a week of adapted sports, new friendships and unforgettable experiences.

For four decades, this one-of-a-kind program has empowered youth with physical disabilities to discover their abilities, build confidence, and connect through sport. We are proud to carry forward this legacy of possibility and inclusion on the Central Coast.

The camp is offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of the Foundation for Cottage Rehabilitation & Goleta Valley Cottage Hospitals and our community donors.

Join us Friday, September 19, 1–4 p.m. at the Goleta Community Center (5679 Hollister Ave. in Goleta) for a drive-up event to ensure your child’s car seat is installed safely.
- No registration required

Dr. Daniel Crossman and Dr. Casey Whipple, family medicine providers, have joined Cottage Primary Care – Goleta. Dr. Crossman specializes in adult primary care, while Dr. Whipple provides care for patients of all ages—from newborns to adults.

Cottage Primary Care – Goleta is located at 334 S. Patterson Avenue, Suite 120 and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Registration is now open for Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp (JWSC), July 21–25 at UCSB!

JWSC is designed for youth athletes and young adults, ages 6-21, with physical disabilities who use a wheelchair, or could use a wheelchair, to participate in sports.

Camp is FREE. Transportation to the camp site, UC Santa Barbara Recreation Center, will be available from Carpinteria, Goleta, Lompoc, Santa Barbara, Santa Maria and Ventura/Oxnard areas, for those who need it.

Volunteers Needed for Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital's Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp!

Join the Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp family and help campers 6-21 years old participate in wheelchair sports and activities including tennis, basketball, rugby, aquatics, hand cycling and more!

New and returning volunteers can apply online: cottagehealth.org/wheelchaircamp

Help is needed Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Volunteers must be 14 years or older. Minimum of three-day volunteer commitment. The deadline to apply is June 16.

“I am so grateful for the excellent, attentive care Remy received at Cottage. Everyone – nurses, doctors and therapists – was amazing!” – Lisa, Remy’s mother

Earlier this year, 16-month-old Remy began having trouble breathing and was rushed to the emergency department at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where he was diagnosed with RSV and hospitalized. He received treatment and care that included respiratory therapy and oxygen. Day by day, Remy began feeling better.

He was able to return home after a five-day stay at Cottage Children’s Medical Center and soon bounced back to his active toddler life of running, playing and enjoying his picture books, which included a favorite that he received from the Cottage Child Life team.

From the Birth Center to the Mother Infant Unit, to Cottage Children’s Medical Center and Grotenhuis Pediatric Specialty Clinics, our staff is honored to offer care and compassion to children in all stages of their lives. Learn more at cottagehealth.org/childrens.

Cottage Health is proud to announce the election of Dr. Lynn Fitzgibbons to its Board of Directors.

A respected physician leader with nearly two decades of clinical and administrative experience, Dr. Fitzgibbons brings deep expertise in infectious diseases, public health and medical education. She serves as Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and holds multiple medical directorships within Cottage Health, including for Infection Prevention and Control and the Cottage Center for Population Health. Dr. Fitzgibbons is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. A proud alumnus of the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), she is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at UCSB.

Throughout her career, Dr. Fitzgibbons has led local pandemic responses, directed quality initiatives, and championed equitable, community-based care.
