The main charge of the board is to promote open education and awareness through events, forums and educational campaigns. The driving force behind this initiative is twofold: That ignorance is the primary root of human rights abuses, and when collaborating together we are capable of making a much stronger impact.

Hey Gauchos!!! We are excited to announce our FINAL event of Passport Around the World on Monday, May 4th from 1-2:30pm at the SRB’s Multi-Purpose Room! 🌏✈️ We’ll be having some fun activities as well as FREE IN-N-OUT!!!

P.S. At 2pm, we are doing our raffle (if you’ve come to 2 or more events), so bring your stamped passport! There will be 3 winners of AirPods, JBL Headphones, Mental Health Care Baskets, and more! 👀🎟️🎧

Apply now to be a part of the 2026-2027 A.S. Human Rights Board!!!

We highly encourage you to apply ASAP seeing that applications will be processed on a rolling basis. You will be contacted on a rolling basis as well. Our first review of applications will be end of week 5, May 1st.

The Human Rights Board prioritizes inclusive spaces and equitable practices, thus it is NOT mandated to have any prior experience to be qualified for a role within the board.
In order to participate as a board member and/or officer in Associated Students one needs to be currently enrolled in at least 6 units and also has at least a 2.0 GPA.

Happy Week 4, Gauchos!!! We are excited to announce our second event of Passport Around the World which will take place on Friday, April 24th from 5:30pm-7:00pm at the SRB’s Multi-Purpose Room and will celebrate European culture! 🌏✈️ We’ll be having the Ukrainian Club bring in some delicious Ukrainian food 😋as well as Woodstock’s pizza! We are SO excited to see you again! 🌏✈️

P.S. In order to be entered into the raffle (Airpods, Sony Headphones, Mental Health Care Baskets, UCSB merch, etc) you MUST 2 out of 4 of the events and receive a stamp on your passport after completing at least 1 activity. We will be having 4 winners during Week 6, so stay tuned 👀🎟️🎧

Hello everybody, and Happy Week 3! We hope you all have had a blast during the start of Spring Quarter 🌺💖 We’d like to announce that our first event in the Passport Around the World Series will take place on Tuesday, April 14th from 6:30pm-8:00pm at the SRB’s Multi-Purpose Room. ✈️ We’ll be having the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) and Kapatirang Pilipino (KP) join us to talk a bit about their cultures’ mental health aspects and bring in some delicious food 😋🍜 We are SO excited to see you at the first event of our series: Asia Continent. 🌏✈️

As we continue into 2026, the Human Rights Board wants to remind you all about the ongoing ICE raids affecting our nation; moreover, how to keep oneself safe amidst them. While we have other posts on our profile pertaining to this, a simple repost is less preferable to reframing the information. We are all affected by this, and reading it in a new format makes it more memorable, which is what we need in this time — to not forget about the injustices occurring within our own state, our own cities, our own universities. Once again, know your rights, know when they are being infringed upon, know how to protect yourself and others.

Come join the HRB this upcoming Monday (1/12), for the screening of 2024 Academy Award nominated documentary Sugarcane. This film explores the horrors of the Indian residential school system which served as a tool of state-funded cultural genocide in both the United States and Canada for over 150 years. Indigenous children were placed into residential schools, where they were subsequently separated from their cultures, religions, languages, families and communities to propagate forceful assimilation into an Anglo-Saxon world. Sugarcane focuses on the investigation of unmarked graves found at Saint Joseph’s Indian Residential School in British Columbia, Canada, the survivors of these residential schools, and how the indigenous were impacted by oppression, intergenerational trauma, and colonialism.

Trigger Warning: This movie contains discussions of severe violence including physical, s*xual, and psychological abuse, murder, and racism.
