Santa Barbara Village is a nonprofit program for seniors who want to stay as independent as possible and live safely and comfortably in their own homes. With one phone call or email message, Village members can gain access to professional and volunteer services and a variety of educational, cultural, and social programs. Santa Barbara Village is not a building or housing development; it is an alte
rnative to a retirement or assisted-living facility for seniors who wish to remain independent and at home as long as possible. We call it a "virtual senior living community" because area residents will form a community through volunteering for one another and through joining the Village as a member with access to shared activities and services. We have been focused on planning our services and programs, determining volunteer needs, and launching membership and fundraising campaigns as well as many other activities related to our official opening. Our 2-phased incremental launch kicked off with Phase I (limited services) on October 17, 2011. Phase II (full launch) will begin January 2012. Members who join before Dec 31, 2011, will enjoy member benefits during Phase I free of charge. We are currently outreaching to community groups, senior service providers, and our extensive network of individuals so that individuals and families who most need these services are informed.
