This holiday season, our NICU team arranged a special visit from Santa, giving families the option to capture their baby’s first holiday photo. Babies were photographed with stockings and knit beanies handmade by our volunteers.

Our Maternity unit also joined in the tradition, with every baby born in December receiving a handmade stocking as a keepsake for their family.

We’re grateful to our volunteers and teams who make these moments possible.

Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital is now offering histotripsy, an innovative non-invasive treatment for liver tumors. SBCH is one of the few hospitals in the country using this focused ultrasound technology—and the only provider between Southern and Northern California.

Histotripsy precisely targets and breaks down tumor tissue without heat, radiation, incisions, or needles. For many patients, it offers a new option when surgery isn’t possible.

A stomachache led five-year-old Miles and his family to Cottage Urgent Care, where the team quickly identified appendicitis and sent him straight to the Cottage ER. There they found exceptional medical care, comfort and compassion, and Miles made a fast recovery. Miles’ five-day stay in Pediatrics at Cottage was so positive, he keeps a memento box with his admissions bracelet, the teddy bear he received and his hospital gown.

From the Birth Center to the Mother Infant Unit, to Cottage Children’s Medical Center and Grotenhuis Pediatric Specialty Clinics, our staff is honored to offer care and compassion to children in all stages of their lives.

When Natalie was four, her joyful voice fell silent. She was taken to the hospital with pneumonia and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Her oxygen levels dropped dangerously low, and her left lung collapsed. Thanks to generous donor support, Cottage was ready. Our donor-supported pediatric ambulance brought her safely to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, providing critical care and comfort along the way. She was admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, where she was cared for by our team of experts who specialize in children’s emergencies. Natalie received the lifesaving, compassionate care she needed—just in time and close to home. Today, Natalie is doing well and thriving.

For Nina, life has always been full of movement. As a master gardener, devoted volunteer, and passionate philanthropist, she has spent her life cultivating beauty and connection. But one rainy morning, everything changed. While preparing for a visit from her granddaughter, Nina slipped and fell. Her knee shattered on impact, and she had to be rushed to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and underwent emergency surgery. At Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital (CRH), Nina found more than expert care. She found compassion, connection, and strength to move forward. From physical therapists to aides, every person helped her rebuild confidence—step by step.

Carlyle has spent most of his life under the wide-open skies of the Santa Ynez Valley—working the land, running his art business, and raising a family. But one quiet evening, everything changed in an instant. He was having a stroke. No warning. No time to waste. What saved him was fast, expert care—just minutes away at Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital. From there, he was transferred to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for specialized stroke care, followed by intensive therapy at Cottage Rehabilitation Hospital. Every day was a fight—to walk, speak, and reclaim the life he loved. Today, Carlyle is enjoying life, thanks to the care he received.

Each year, Cottage Health hosts a Veterans Day celebration to honor active and retired veterans, providing a time to gather, reflect and express appreciation for their service. This year marked the 13th annual event and featured a traditional remembrance led by retired Colonel Kevin Nelson.

As we observe Veterans Day, we are grateful to all who have served and are proud to recognize the veterans at Cottage Health who continue that tradition of service every day.
