One (of the many) reasons to breathe through your nose! Nasal breathing results in more oxygen absorption. Nitric oxide is released in the nasal cavity and inhaled with nasal breathing. Nitric oxide increases the efficiency of oxygen exchange by a whopping 18%! This is especially important for children’s brains when they’re developing.
If you’re a chronic mouth breather, switching to nasal breathing is not an easy thing to do. There is most likely an underlying issue (whether past or present) that caused the deviation from “normal” that should be uncovered and addressed. It’s not mind over matter. It often times requires neuromuscular reeducation to correct. After all, we want you breathing through your nose when you sleep too! 😉😴
