Thank you all for the opportunity to help you with your hormonal needs. Changes are difficult, but I have decided to use my Master's in Public Health degree in addition to my MD degree.

I have closed the Hormone Clinic and have started working at The Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics.

I will be doing primary care medicine for SBNC as they need me. Great Clinic!

It's complicated: what is the best preventive medicine? The internet is full of options and it is hard to separate the wheat from the chaff.

We all want to stay healthy! Physicians like to make recommendations based on "evidence-based medicine". This article in JAMA helps explain what the "US Preventive Services Task Force" does and how they do it.

http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=2516716

The US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), created in 1984, is a group of 16 national experts in preventive and evidence-based medicine. Preventive medicine focuses on preventing disease and disability before they happen rather than treating them afterward. Evidence-based medicine refers to...

PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome is the second most common hormone problem in women after thyroid problems. It can be associated with irregular or infrequent periods, acne and inability to lose weight in young women. Also, PCOS is associated with a higher rate of heart attacks and other heart problems in middle aged women.

A new interesting study found that asthma may be correlated with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome).

Great study about the importance of exercise during the menopausal transition:

The researchers found that women who were sedentary, meaning they exercised fewer than three times a week, were 28% more likely to report having severe menopause symptoms than those who exercised more. Not surprisingly, sedentary women were also 52% more likely to be obese.

Women who lead sedentary lives have more severe menopause symptoms compared with more physically active women, a new study finds.
