Throwing injuries can be tricky. First, Dr Yau will ask you about your pain and how it started. Then, he will check your shoulder’s movement and strength. If needed, he will get X-rays or MRIs to see what’s happening inside. Step-by-step, he will find the root cause and plan your recovery.

Throwing injuries in overhead athletes are commonly seen in baseball, tennis, volleyball and certain track and field events.

Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) injuries vary widely in severity, and treatment is tailored accordingly. For grade 1-2 tears, non-surgical management with bracing, rest, ice, and physical therapy often leads to successful recovery.

However, grade 3 or unstable tears, or those unresponsive to conservative care, may require surgical intervention. This could involve ligament repair or reconstruction using autografts or allografts.

Dr. Yau’s approach is personalized and evidence-based, aiming for optimal knee stability and function.

A medial collateral ligament injury can range from a mild sprain to a complete MCL tear. The hallmark symptom of an MCL injury is medial knee pain.

A proximal hamstring tear isn’t just a “pull”—it usually hits with a sharp pop or snap deep in your buttock. If you’re suddenly struggling to walk or sit without pain, and notice swelling or bruising in the back of your thigh in the days after — you might be dealing with a tear.

Sometimes, the nearby sciatic nerve gets involved, causing tingling or numbness down your leg.

Patients affected by a tear in the proximal hamstring often experience acute pain with a “popping” sensation of the buttock region.

Your meniscus is the rubbery, C-shaped cartilage that cushions the knee — absorbing shock between your shinbone and thighbone. But when it tears (from injury, overuse, or aging), it can cause:
❌ Pain
❌ Swelling
❌ Catching or locking
❌ Limited motion

In some cases, arthroscopic meniscus surgery is the best way to restore function and relieve pain.

The overall goal of meniscus surgery is to improve knee function. Repairing a torn meniscus can decrease the risk of developing future osteoarthritis.
