Dre McGee, LMFT

Dre McGee, LMFT Personal, confidential, and custom tailored therapeutic and/or coaching services. Dre McGee is a Mar My name is Andrea McGee, but you can call me Dre.

I have a great respect for those who seek to improve their quality of life. My life's work is dedicated to help facilitate that process and help collaborate to create clarity. I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist providing psychotherapy to children, individuals, couples, and families. I have worked in Santa Barbara serving the community since 2005. I can work with a multitude of problems that may b

e overwhelming or concerning to you and/or your family. I also work with preventive measures to prepare, plan, and handle future problems. I have experience and training working with a wide variety of diagnosis, life issues and concerns that face an individual, couple, and/or family i.e. depression, anxiety, transitions, burnout, trauma, relationship concerns, communication, self-esteem and much more. I provide a personal, confidential, and a unique counseling experience. I will help you explore what is overwhelming you or creating distress in your quality of life. I believe that therapy is a positive investment in one’s self that creates personal growth and enhances one’s life. I am a practical and interactive therapist; my treatment approach is to provide support with insight and feedback to help address current and/or long-standing issues I have a few specialties that I have extensive training, experience, and education in which are listed below. Pre-marital counseling - Helping the couple plan and prepare for a lifelong marital commitment. While addressing the stresses of the upcoming nuptials, we work on skills to communicate better, fight fairly, compromise, and help pin point issues of disagreement and highlight strengths that will facilitate building a road map to a successful lifelong marriage

Life Transitions, This can be at any point or age in your life, when things become a bit overwhelming and you are not sure where you should go or what the next moves in life will be. Transitional issues tend to revolve around the big areas in your life but aren't limited to, school/job decisions, relationship decisions, family and or location decisions. For example, that entire decade of one's twenties where things may not make sense and one might be consumed with feelings of dissatisfaction, whether with yourself, with your partner, or job. A lot of anxiety and depression can go hand in hand with life transitions, so I enjoy helping you find ways to manage and decrease this. I love my work with all ages of adults, helping to figure out how to manage, balance, and successfully transition through life stages and events. Children, Tweens, and Teens - I have had extensive years of experience with this age group; communication, relationship issues, self-injurious behaviors, self-esteem, body image, anger management, and more. This work is best done with collaboration from parents to help support their child in the therapeutic process. I also have a specialty working with youth who are in the foster care system or who have been adopted and facing the struggles of transition, adjustment with a new family, rules, cultures, and difficult feelings. I also provide family planning for those who are considering foster care or adoption. EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy. I have been trained in EMDR and it is a newer therapy discovered in the last few decades that is being researched with great outcomes for trauma, PTSD, and anxiety. This style of therapy needs specialty training and helps get you past your past! For more information about EMDR you can contact me or read the FAQs at http://www.emdr.com/faqs.html

Background - I graduated from University of Santa Barbara in 2007 with my Bachelor of Art’s in Sociology and a Minor in Psychology. If there is something you are dealing with, that I don’t work with, I have a network of great therapists that I can refer you to. If I am not the right fit, I am happy to help connect you with the right therapist. It is important to note, therapists are not one size fits all! I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation, so do not hesitate to call and find out if I can help you work towards a happier and fulfilling quality of life.

The Earth Day movement was directly influenced by a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara in 1969. Senator Ga***rd Nelson, who later organized the first Earth Day in 1970, was inspired by the devastation he witnessed during the spill. The oil spill in Santa Barbara sparked national environmental awareness and galvanized the movement that led to the first Earth Day.

Good morning from San Francisco!

I have temporarily relocated to SF.

I say temporary, because everything is low key temporary if you think about it. I also plan to live in NYC at some point and I plan to end up back in Santa Barbara. Ahh the picture in my head what my life will be 🙃.

The original picture had me moving to SF in 2023 but life has a way of making sure it has co authoring representation. So now two years later, 2025 has landed me on the San Francisco chapter.

Since Covid allowed my practice to go virtual, I have been able to take this show on the road and it’s been such an opportunity for growth!

I detoured from “the plan” and ended up in Los Angeles and gained SO much from busting out of my lovely Santa Barbara bubble. We called LA the baby step, as I had lived in Santa Barbara for 20 years and wasn’t really ready to be that far from it. I expanded my practice to LA while being able to still stay closely tied to Santa Barbara- quite the balancing act, that I feel I nailed!

A whole world of new experiences and learned a lot from different problems my clients faced and different problems I faced. The more I expanded my world, the more I could expand how I showed up as a therapist.

So here we are again, new location with new experiences and new people. This time, less of the ability to run back to what I know and what is comfortable.

How will this chapter play out and for how long? TBD: but happy to announce, that life and I will be co authoring together and I’m sure it will have some twists and turns but it feels like it will be a masterpiece!

With ALL that being said, I am happily and available to seeing clients from ANYWHERE in the state of California (mostly virtual).

This therapist is just trying to be the most well rounded California therapists one could be- so don’t hesitate to reach out or send referrals! I am excited to see where this experience and my practice grows to 🧡

Tonight I went with my best friend and I sat among 200 of my peers to see Esther Perel speak in Santa Barbara. I already knew I was in a treat to hear her insights and have a really thoughtful night around human relationships. I got just that and more.

She had the audience engage with each other, emphasizing the importance of human connection, play, and intimacy. The cherry on top of my evening was when the legendary psychotherapist picked me as a member out of the crowd to answer one of her questions. Before you knew it, I was on the mental health version of the jumbo tron, in front of my peers and role model therapist. We discussed the notion of life changing risk and how I am analyzing my “game of chess” to make the next move. A handful of my friends and I later I found out at least one client- yelled/cheered as I found myself on the big screen.

I am not sure if this is a mental health touch down, home run, or how you would score this… but it was definitely wonderful experience!

Cricket wasn’t originally the “therapy dog” until she was the best therapy dog to ever therapy dog. What a dream it is to get to work along side my best friend! To watch her share in the love for my clients and my clients to connect with her, what a special experience. Today was a bit of an emotional day as we are saying goodbye to the 330 Junipero chapter. Here’s to continuing being the therapist with the therapy dog wherever that next spot may be ❤️

What is going is NOT okay. The thing we can do is come together and continue to show up for our communities and align with how we want to see this world. Remind yourself you are doing things that align with helping like _______. Today move through with little things that keep you connected or aligned, like something as simple as opening a door for someone. Careful how much you ingest on the internet. Take yourself out to nature and walk to calm your nervous system. Go hike if you can. It’s easy to catastrophize, I am over here finding myself doing it as well.

This may feel like the end of the world but it isn’t. It’s hard but we do hard things all the time. We may have to grieve and go through all the stages but we can also stay in love, keep our hearts open and remind ourselves that there is good in the world and all around us and we can choose to BE the good and LOOK for the good in others.

Grieve today and feel your feelings but don’t become apathetic, that’s the scariest outcome. Find an organization on a cause you are fighting for and get involved. I myself am fighting for our environment and learned about https://www.instagram.com/earthjustice?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== this morning. I already park of local organizations like https://www.instagram.com/echo_park_trash_club?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== and https://www.instagram.com/commune_closets?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Find ways to get more connected. Use this as the drive to show up! Feel today… fight for our tomorrow.

With that being said, I am sending so much love to each of you and this one hurts!

Hi my fellow Los Angeles and Santa Barbara therapists and everyone in between. For me Covid killed community for our field. We have doubled the work load and have made everything virtual. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE virtual but I also love balance. I am going to start having in person meet ups and host something once a month, one the east side of LA, one on the west side LA, and one in SB. Welcome to all. Great way to build community and new referral base and not feel so lonely and isolated in our work.

The intention is to reconnect with people in mental health casually/ socially to start and go with the flow from there.

I will also do a once a month mental health meet up open to anyone wanting to socially meet up with the focus on mental health not just therapists (location will change)

Please let me know your level on interest

- hell ya, give me dates and I’ll make it work

- yes, here’s what days are best for me

- I really want to but time to do this will be really hard, but keep sending me invites

Please comment with your interest and/or DM me your contact info so I can include you and let you know upcoming details

How many times has your dentist told you to floss … it’s the littlest thing that makes the biggest difference in dental health. This is your BREATH in mental health!

If I could convince my clients to do a breathing exercise twice a day for 2 minutes for the rest of their life, we would have a society with a much more regulated nervous system! Listen I am guilty over here; I floss sometimes and I have never had a daily breathing routine. This is changing!

I have started to practice what I preach! Your breath is so dang powerful they literally use it as first option for giving birth.

There are many resources to help you develop a breathing exercise routine that works for you. You can hop on and look up a breath class near you. is the one I have used in LA. There is podcasts, like that I swear by and use their daily devotions. There are apps like I use. There is the box breath (breath for 4, hold for 4, breathe out for 4, hold for 4) or my classic go to - 5-1-7 (in, hold, out). There are so many options to help you get there and to use. The key to what breathing exercise or routine you have is the ONE YOU’LL USE. So if it is as simple and just slowing down on your own and breathing with a timer or going to a class and have someone instruct you; I challenge you to find what works for you and what you’ll use. It’s the littlest thing with the biggest impact!

Also for great knowledge about the importance of our breath, read the book “Breath” by James Nestor.
