🎉 JW House at the Santa Clara Parade of Champions! 🎉

Last Saturday, October 4th, JW House proudly joined the Santa Clara Parade of Champions — and what an incredible day it was! 💛

We spent the morning in the Community Village, connecting with local nonprofits, small businesses, and community members while sharing our mission of keeping families close during medical crises.

A special highlight of the day: Ron Wood, representing the Northern California F-100 Elite’s, Silicon Valley Chapter, drove his award-winning 1952 Custom Ford F-1 Pickup in support of JW House 🚗 — joined by Anne-Marie (JW’s mom!) and our amazing JW House Student Board, who marched proudly alongside.

It was a day full of community, connection, and celebration — a true reminder of the heart that keeps Santa Clara shining. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello and show their support. We can’t wait to do it again next year! 🙌

🌟 Prometheus Volunteers Shine Again! 🌟

On September 25th, our friends from Prometheus Apartments joined us for a corporate volunteering day — and they did not disappoint! 💪

The team took on a full patio revamp project, giving our Elisabeth and JW patios a beautiful refresh. From mulching and power washing to hauling out old furniture, stringing up lights, and making the space shine — they truly went above and beyond! ✨

Prometheus has been a dedicated supporter of JW House for years, and their continued partnership means the world to us. 💛 Because of their hard work, our guest families now have an even more peaceful and welcoming space to relax and recharge.

🎶 A Standing Ovation for HopeBox Youth Orchestra 🎶

We are beyond grateful to the HopeBox Charity Youth Orchestra for choosing JW House as one of the beneficiaries of their 14th Annual Benefit Concert!

Not only do our guest families love when these talented young musicians come and fill JW House with beautiful music, but this year, they went a step further — presenting us with a $6,500 donation! 🙌

Our Executive Director, Cindy, had the honor of speaking at their concert, sharing how much their music means to families who are facing some of life’s hardest moments.

Thank you, HopeBox Youth Orchestra, for lifting hearts with your music and making such a meaningful impact on our mission. 💛

🍽️ Dinner is Served! 💛

Last Friday, our friends at Notre Dame generously provided dinner for our guest families — and it was such a treat! With their support, our amazing Friday volunteers whipped up a hearty meal of rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, chickpea salad, and homemade Rice Krispies for dessert. ✨

A special shoutout to Kerry and the Friday volunteer crew for stepping in last minute to make Kerry’s famous mashed potatoes — a true JW House favorite! 🥔

We are so grateful to our volunteers, staff, and community partners. Dinners like this wouldn’t be possible without your love and dedication. Thank you for helping us keep families nourished and comforted during their hardest times. 💛

🎂 Remembering JW: Born to Inspire, Lived to Serve 🎂

Today, September 22nd — what would have been Jan-Willem “JW” Knapen’s birthday — we pause to remember not just a young life lost, but a mission born. JW was born in Belgium in 1988, two months early, and by age four had already faced leukemia. He and his family later moved to San Jose, where he grew into a joyful, generous teenager — full of humor, light, and boundless compassion.

In 2002, as a freshman at Bellarmine College Preparatory, JW was diagnosed with brain cancer. Despite treatment, surgery, and radiation, he never gave up hope. Instead, he asked: how could his struggle help others? With Dr. Alan Wong and support from his family and community, JW began fundraising — selling blue wristbands bearing his motto, “Never Ever Give Up!” — and dreaming of a “home away from home” for families like his own.

He passed away in August 2005, at just 16, but not before laying the groundwork for JW House. When the doors opened in 2008, it wasn’t just the realization of a building — it was the fulfillment of a promise: a place offering comfort, meals, overnight lodging, and respite for families facing medical crises in Silicon Valley.

Today, his legacy shines in every kind meal prepared, every family finding rest, every volunteer stepping in, and every caring moment shared within those walls. Because of JW’s courage and dream, thousands have been reminded that in the darkest times, love makes a home.

Happy birthday, JW. We carry your light forward. 💙

🌟 Thank you, CKD USA Corporation ! 🌟

On September 12th, our friends at CKD USA joined us for another amazing volunteer day at JW House! 💛

They rolled up their sleeves and prepared breakfast burritos to freeze for families who need a quick meal before heading out to the hospital (especially on weekends or before the kitchen opens). And of course, they baked up some fresh chocolate chip cookies to spread a little extra comfort and joy. 🌯🍪

CKD USA has been supporting JW House with this thoughtful tradition for years, and we are so grateful for their continued generosity and care. 🙌

🍽️ Dinner is Served! 🍽️

On September 12th, we were treated to an incredible Kitchell Founder’s Day feast from the Kitchell team, alongside our very own board member, Tony Mirenda! 👏

The menu was nothing short of amazing: BBQ chicken, tri tip, garlic bread, fresh salad, pasta, green veggies, sautéed onions, mushrooms & potatoes — and to top it all off, a mouthwatering dessert assortment.

We are so grateful to groups who pour their time, effort, and heart into supporting JW House families. 💛 JW House wouldn’t exist without the generosity and compassion of people like them in our community.

🍽️ Dinner is Served by The Coffee Club! 🍽️

On September 6th, our friends from The Coffee Club treated our guest families to an unforgettable feast — all made with love. 🌟

The menu was absolutely incredible, featuring: Wonton Soup, Green Onion Pancakes, Chicken Dish, Zucchini Stir-Fry with Shrimp, Egg Rolls, Pasta, Chips & Guacamole, and Cookies.

Every bite was delicious and brought so much comfort to families who needed it most. 💛

We are so grateful for The Coffee Club’s generosity, time, and care. JW House wouldn’t be the same without wonderful volunteers like you who give hope a home. ✨

Located on the campus of Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center, JW House welcomes families and individuals from area hospitals into our family for rest and self-care during the day or overnight while their loved one is in the hospital.

No family should be separated when they need each other the most.
