To the mothers who are both the guardians and the witnesses—this one is for you…

When I first was able to finally hold Haven, wires trailing from his tiny body like threads spun by fate, I made a silent vow. I would be the one who remembers. Every tube, every scar, every miracle hidden in the margins of his chart. I would witness it all, and I would protect it fiercely.

There’s a quiet kind of strength in being both sword and scroll. We guard our children with sleepless eyes and trembling hands, and we document their victories in the spaces no one else sees—like a smile after pain, a breath taken without a machine, the first time they can actually say “mamma”.

We don’t get medals. But we keep going.
We don’t always feel strong. But we are.
We are the keepers of stories no one else will write.

And so today, I honor you—fellow Guardian-Witnesses. Whether you’re beside a hospital bed, advocating in a school hallway, or just holding the line through one more hard day, you are not alone.

Your child’s life is a miracle.
Your strength is the ink that tells the world it happened.
And together—we are changing the ending.

Excerpt from Safe Haven (Unpublished Manuscript)

“There were days when I lived in the space between beeping monitors and whispered prayers. I would watch his chest rise, each breath a defiant act of survival, and I’d think—if he can keep going, then so can I.

But it wasn’t just about staying strong. It was about staying present. About being the one who saw the whole truth, even when no one else could bear to look. I became fluent in the language of labs and lullabies. I learned to translate trauma into timelines, pain into purpose.

I didn’t choose to be a warrior after war. I became one because there was no other choice. But I did choose to be a witness—to say, over and over again, ‘He matters. He is here. And I will not let this be forgotten.’”

Waiting for Haven
A Story of a Little Boy Who Defied the Odds

Born so small, less than a pound,
In a world of wires, no comforting sound.
Eight long months in a NICU bed,
With less than ten percent, they said.

But Haven fought with all his might,
A tiny warrior, chasing light.
He made it through the darkest night,
A miracle wrapped in fragile flight.

Now five years old, back in this place,
Where time has slowed, yet hearts still race.
His body frail, his spirit strong,
We wait for him, we've waited long.

A family waits, hope intertwined,
For Haven's strength, his light to shine.
Through every test, through every tear,
He teaches lessons, year by year.

For in his veins, though clot may flow,
His will is greater than we know.
A little boy with giant fight,
A miracle born from endless night.

We wait for Haven, heart and hand,
The boy who teaches us to stand.
Through every battle, large or small,
He proves again, he'll beat them all.

100 Days Early: Born Less Than a Pound and Survived

From tiniest of beginnings, Haven Greyson Smith is a micro-preemie, a term given to babies often weighing less than 1,000 grams at birth or born before 28 weeks’ gestation. Haven was much smaller, weighing just less than a pound (410 grams) at birth and born at only 25 weeks’ gestation. Born despite the odds of less than 10 percent chance at survival this little Mighty Peanut shows the world how to defy challenges and to focus on the precious things in life that really matter. His Mamma’s must-read memoir captures their journey of finding hope through the horror, finding faith in the fears, and learning to let love guide your life. A love story about an unconventional mother and an extraordinary child. This is a story that needs to be told. A remarkable journey that reminds us there is no such thing as "ordinary" when it comes to motherhood. Haven is the tiniest baby born at Packard Children's Hospital in 2019 (and likely one of the tiniest babies born in the U.S. this year). He is the definition of a warrior, says his Mamma who is herself an Army war veteran that served in Afghanistan. This tiny baby inspires others to keep fighting and shown through his followers, his Angels around the world, that there is still light and goodness in mankind. Amanda’s writing is vulnerable, accessible, and straight from the heart. Both poignant and raw, "100 Days Early" recounts Amanda’s gripping story of learning to navigate her newfound motherhood in the most unexpected of ways, from middle-of-the-night phone calls to the crippling fear of life threatening surgeries. With vulnerability, Amanda lays bare her struggle to redefine her faith, her family, and herself within the context of a tragedy she never saw coming. For anyone who has felt their faith falter, 100 Days Early extends a gentle invitation to join her as she uncovers a hope that holds.
