People often say wrinkles are just a normal part of aging. But sometimes the cause is something completely different. Many children and young adults with binocular vision dysfunction constantly strain their eyes to keep their vision clear and single. They may raise their eyebrows, tighten their forehead, or squint to try to line their eyes up and see better. Over time, that constant effort can create deep forehead lines even at a very young age. I have seen patients who developed these wrinkles as early as childhood because their visual system was working overtime every single day. When the eyes are finally aligned with accurately prescribed prism lenses, that constant strain can relax. Many patients notice their eyes feel calmer, their forehead tension decreases, and they no longer need to constantly lift their eyebrows just to see clearly. Sometimes what looks like a cosmetic issue is actually a visual alignment issue. Me when someone is telling me something really important but I suddenly realize I’m not making enough eye contact… and now I’m thinking about my eye contact instead of listening. For many people with binocular vision dysfunction, maintaining eye contact is not automatic. It takes physical effort to keep both eyes aligned on the same target. The eyes naturally want to drift, so you end up constantly looking away, refocusing, and trying to control where your eyes are pointing. Instead of simply listening to the conversation, part of your brain is busy trying to manage your eye alignment. That extra effort can make social interactions exhausting and distracting. Many people do not even realize this is happening until their visual alignment is corrected. Once the eyes are properly aligned with accurately prescribed prism lenses, eye contact becomes effortless again. Your brain can finally focus on the conversation instead of fighting to keep your vision stable. We also offer virtual consultations and virtual vision therapy. Schedule an appointment: www.vividvisionsoptometry.com/appointments

Common symptoms and signs of binocular vision dysfunction include headaches, chronic migraines, dizziness, light sensitivity, anxiety in busy environments, brain fog, difficulty concentrating, eye strain, neck and shoulder tension, motion sensitivity, double vision, blurry vision that comes and goes, losing your place while reading, skipping lines while reading, needing to reread sentences, feeling exhausted after short drives, difficulty in supermarkets or malls, feeling off balance, and struggling to keep eye contact. Many people also notice behavioral signs such as closing one eye to see better, squinting, tilting their head, covering an eye when reading, adjusting posture to see clearly, or constantly shifting how they look at things. Symptoms often reported with binocular vision dysfunction: Headaches Chronic migraines Dizziness Light sensitivity Brain fog Eye strain Neck pain Shoulder tension Motion sensitivity Double vision Blurry or unstable vision Difficulty reading Losing place while reading Skipping lines Difficulty focusing Fatigue after driving Anxiety in stores or crowds Feeling off balance Trouble concentrating ADHD-like symptoms Vivid Visions Optometry, Inc. in Valencia, California specializes in behavioral optometry & prism glasses and helps patients locally and worldwide. Your eyes are supposed to point at the same line at the same time when you read. But in many people with binocular vision dysfunction, the eyes are actually pointing at different lines. One eye may be looking at the correct line while the other eye is drifting slightly above or below it. The brain then has two choices. It can see double, or it can suppress one of the eyes to avoid the double vision. Most of the time the brain chooses suppression. So you start reading with one eye doing most of the work while the other eye is partially ignored. But suppression is not stable. The brain can switch fixation between the eyes. When that happens, the eye that was previously suppressed suddenly takes over. Now your brain is looking at a completely different line of text. That is why many people lose their place when reading, skip lines, reread the same sentence, or feel exhausted after just a few minutes of reading. This is not a focus problem. It is often an eye alignment problem. Vivid Visions Optometry, Inc. in Valencia, California specializes in behavioral optometry & prism glasses and helps patients locally and worldwide. Driving with undiagnosed binocular vision dysfunction can make even short trips feel overwhelming. Many people experience intense light sensitivity, difficulty focusing on the road, visual instability, and extreme fatigue after just a short drive. What should be a simple task can quickly turn into anxiety, tension, and exhaustion because the brain is constantly struggling to keep vision aligned and stable. For many people, the problem is not clarity of vision. They may still see 20/20. The issue is how the two eyes work together. When the eyes are slightly misaligned, the brain has to fight every second to keep the world single and steady, especially while moving through a visually complex environment like driving. To understand what driving can feel like with binocular vision dysfunction, stream “Why Me” by Vivid Visions Optometry on all platforms. The song captures the overwhelming feeling many patients describe when visual stress, dizziness, and anxiety make everyday tasks like driving feel impossible. POV: You flew to California to finally get rid of your chronic migraines using the most natural and least invasive approach possible. Before injections. Before foreign toxins. Before surgeries that implant devices and electrical stimulation. Start by correcting the way light enters the eyes. Many people with chronic migraines are told their scans are normal and their eyes are “perfect” because they can read the 20/20 line. But 20/20 only measures clarity. It does not measure how well the two eyes are aligned and working together. Even a small eye misalignment can force the brain to constantly fight to keep vision single and stable. Over time, that constant visual strain can trigger headaches and migraines. Our patient flew from Arizona to Valencia, California to be evaluated for binocular vision dysfunction and prescription prism lenses that help realign the visual system. We also offer virtual consultations and virtual vision therapy. Schedule an appointment: www.vividvisionsoptometry.com/appointments

POV: The overhead lights in stores, offices, and classrooms instantly trigger a migraine. For many people this is not just “light sensitivity.” It can be a sign that the visual system is under constant strain from a small eye misalignment called binocular vision dysfunction. When the eyes are not perfectly aligned, the brain works overtime to keep vision single and stable. Bright overhead lighting can push that already stressed visual system past its limit, triggering headaches, migraines, dizziness, and fatigue. Many patients are told their eyes are “perfect” because they can read the 20/20 line, but 20/20 only measures clarity. It does not measure how well the two eyes work together. At Vivid Visions Optometry, Inc. in Valencia, California we specialize in behavioral optometry & prism glasses to help align the eyes and reduce the constant visual stress that can trigger migraines. We help patients locally and worldwide and also offer virtual consultations and virtual vision therapy. Schedule an appointment: www.vividvisionsoptometry.com/appointments

Three years ago I decided to start posting on TikTok.

Not because I wanted to be a content creator. I’m an optometrist who kept seeing the same thing over and over in my clinic. Patients coming in after years, sometimes decades, of being told their eyes were “perfect” because they had 20/20 vision. Meanwhile they were dealing with headaches, dizziness, anxiety, double vision, trouble focusing, and struggling through everyday life.

I lived through it myself. Correcting my own binocular vision dysfunction changed my life, and it became my mission to help others find the same answers.

So I started sharing what I see every day in practice.

Over the past three years those videos have reached millions of people. What started as a few educational posts has grown to over 230,000 followers on TikTok, along with large communities on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Pinterest, X, and YouTube. Every piece of awareness I post is shared across all platforms, reaching millions of people daily.

The most meaningful part is not the numbers. It’s the messages.

People telling me they finally understand why they’ve struggled for years. Patients flying in from different states and countries. Parents realizing their child’s struggles might actually be visual. Lives changing because someone finally heard about binocular vision dysfunction.

Sometimes I wish I had more time to create even more awareness.

There are still millions of people out there who have never heard of this. And once they do, it can completely change their life.

If you can only see things clearly when you squint your eyes, your visual system may be working a lot harder than it should. Squinting temporarily changes how light enters the eye and can reduce blur, which is why many people instinctively do it when something looks unclear. But if you constantly find yourself squinting, tilting your head, or closing one eye to see better, it may be a sign that your visual system is under strain. Many people are told their eyes are “perfect” because they have 20/20 vision, but 20/20 only measures clarity. It does not evaluate how well the two eyes work together. Eye misalignment and binocular vision dysfunction can force the brain to constantly compensate, leading to squinting, headaches, eye strain, fatigue, and difficulty focusing. At Vivid Visions Optometry, Inc. in Valencia, California, we specialize in behavioral optometry & prism glasses and evaluate how the eyes actually work together. We help patients locally and worldwide, and we also offer virtual consultations to help patients find doctors in their area. Schedule an appointment: www.vividvisionsoptometry.com/appointments

How I feel removing a foreign body from the cornea. We’re not ophthalmologists and we’re not surgeons… But in California, optometrists are allowed to perform certain minor procedures like removing foreign bodies from the cornea. So for a few minutes it feels like I’m doing eye surgery. Removing debris like metal, dust, or other particles from the cornea can bring immediate relief to someone who has been dealing with intense pain, tearing, redness, and light sensitivity. Even though it looks simple, it requires precision and careful technique because the cornea is one of the most sensitive tissues in the body. For more complex surgical procedures, we work closely with excellent ophthalmologists in the area and regularly refer patients to trusted specialists when surgery is needed. Vivid Visions Optometry, Inc. in Valencia, California specializes in behavioral optometry & prism glasses and also provides comprehensive eye care. We help patients locally and worldwide and also offer virtual consultations to help patients find doctors in their area. Schedule an appointment: www.vividvisionsoptometry.com/appointments

Me when I tell my patient with ADHD that correcting her eye misalignment is going to make her life a lot easier, even though she has perfect 20/20 vision. Most people are told their eyes are “perfect” because they can read the 20/20 line. But that only measures clarity, not how well the two eyes work together. Binocular vision dysfunction is very common in people diagnosed with ADHD. When the eyes are slightly misaligned, the brain has to constantly work to keep vision single and stable. That constant effort can show up as poor focus, fatigue, headaches, anxiety, and difficulty concentrating. When the eyes are finally aligned with accurately prescribed prism lenses, the brain no longer has to fight that visual stress all day. For many patients, life simply becomes easier. Vivid Visions Optometry, Inc. in Valencia, California specializes in behavioral optometry & prism glasses and helps patients locally and worldwide. We also offer virtual consultations and virtual vision therapy. Schedule at: www.vividvisionsoptometry.com/appointments

When the car in front of you suddenly slams on the brakes… For someone with undiagnosed binocular vision dysfunction (BVD), that moment can feel completely overwhelming. Your brain is already working overtime trying to keep both eyes aligned and maintain a single clear image. When something suddenly changes in front of you, like a car stopping fast, your visual system has to process speed, distance, depth, and motion all at once. If the eyes are not aligned properly, the brain can misjudge how far away the car actually is. That can trigger panic, over-braking, delayed reactions, or feeling completely disoriented for a second. Many people think they are just “bad drivers” or “overreacting,” when the real issue is their visual system struggling to process space and motion. When the eyes are properly aligned with prism lenses and the visual system is trained through behavioral optometry & vision therapy, driving often becomes calmer, clearer, and far less stressful. Vivid Visions Optometry, Inc. in Valencia, California specializes in behavioral optometry & prism glasses and helps patients locally and worldwide. We also offer virtual consultations to help patients find doctors in their area. Schedule a consultation: www.vividvisionsoptometry.com/appointments
