In a recent episode of my Masterclass series, I dive into the topic of using food as medicine. I talk about what foods will help you live longer and how food affects every single body function, and we even answer some questions from our community.

"POWERHOUSE" FOODS

I often cringe when I hear the term "superfoods" because I don't think it's well defined, so I was excited to see this publication defining "powerhouse" foods based on nutrient density. It reported 41 different foods assessed for 17 nutrients weighted for bioavailability. These were the top 10 "powerhouse" foods (as they were called), with watercress in the lead.

Very interesting because in another publication on "anti-depressant foods" by LaChance and Ramsey (2018), watercress also came out first on the list due to its nutrient content. All in all, I support eating a colorful array of foods; however, as you can see here, when you need nutrient density overall, GREEN is the color to follow! They are rich in folates, vitamin K1, carotenoids, and minerals like magnesium and potassium.

I started my health blog Empowered Sustenance when I was 19, and had just begun healing my "incurable" disease through nutrition.

Since the beginning of my blogging days, I've shared the scientific literature that conflicted with the mainstream/governmental health advice of the time.

As I've continued blogging for the last nine years, the pattern hasn't changed.

Governmental health regulations typically reflect paid-science (i.e. pseudoscience), based more on political/financial special interests rather than YOUR best interest.

This is important to keep in mind at times like these.

Some of you have already been on this questioning/healing journey for a while. For those who are new to questioning the allopathic/mainstream health narrative, you're in the right place! I have some simple, practical, science-based resources for you at Empowered Sustenance.

I'd recommend checking out my post, How To Know The Difference Between Science and Pseudoscience

Have you recognized this pattern in your own healing journey?
