🎃👻 Halloween may make skeletons seem spooky, but they’re actually full of fascinating surprises! 🦴✨
As a massage therapist, I LOVE sharing information about our bodies, and the beautiful ways they sustain us every day.
Here are my top five surprising facts about our skeletons:
1. Babies Have More Bones Than Adults: Babies are born with about 270 bones, but as they grow, some of these bones fuse together, leaving adults with 206 bones.
2. Your Skeleton Renews Itself: Approximately every 5-10 years, your skeleton completely regenerates itself via a process called "remodeling." So, you’re always walking around with a “new” skeleton!
3. The Smallest Bone is in Your Ear: The stapes, a tiny bone in the middle ear, is the smallest bone in the human body. It’s just about the size of a grain of rice!
4. Bones Are Full of Life: Our bones are very tough and resilient, but they aren’t lifeless like stones. They contain marrow, which produces red and white blood cells, playing a crucial role in your body’s immune system.
5. You Have More Than One Type of Bone: Your body has different types of bones, including long bones (like your femur), short bones (like those in your wrist), flat bones (like your skull), and irregular bones (like your vertebrae).
So, next time you see a skeleton decoration, remember how amazing and resilient our bones truly are! 🦴💪
And if your hard-working body is feeling more scary than amazing, it might be time to soothe some troubles away with a massage therapy session. I draw on Hawaiian lomilomi, Esalen massage, and craniosacral therapy in my practice - something for every body and soul! I have some great promotions in the works for the holidays, too, so contact me to schedule or for more details!
