We’re humbled by the incredible impact our partners at Casers in Ukraine are making with the retinal camera. In Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Dnipropetrovsk, nearly 200 patients have already been screened — enabling early detection of sight-threatening conditions like diabetic retinopathy, even in the midst of war.
This milestone is a testament to the dedication and resilience of the medical teams on the ground. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to protecting vision during such challenging times. 💙💛
We’ll continue to share updates to honor this vital work — and invite you to join us in recognizing the heroes making a difference every day.

EyePACS proudly partnered with Optain during a free community vision event hosted by Heart of Ohio Family Health in collaboration with VSP Eyes of Hope, The Ohio State University, and others on July 12-13 in Whitehall, Ohio.

Over 140 patients received vision care services during the event. As part of the effort, 50 patients were screened using Optain's portable retinal camera, with image analysis supported by the EyePACS platform. This collaboration helped identify potential eye conditions and provided a valuable layer of diagnostic support.

We're honored to help bring innovative, accessible eye care tools into community settings-proving that technology and partnership can drive real impact.

Heart of Ohio Family Health teamed up with The Ohio State University and VSP Vision for a free vision clinic at James B. Feibel Center on Sunday afternoon.

We’re proud to stand with Florida Association of Community Health Centers and CHCs across Florida in recognizing Health Conditions Focus Day.
Health centers across the country are on the front lines of preventing, detecting, and managing chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Many clinics — including those in Florida — use tools like EyePACS as a critical step in diagnosing diabetic retinopathy, enabling early detection and helping prevent vision loss. From diabetes care and heart health to cancer screenings and nutrition services, we’re committed to helping patients manage their health and live fuller, healthier lives.

Thank you, FACHC, for highlighting the essential work happening across Florida to support our communities.

Health centers in Florida play a critical role in addressing acute and chronic conditions through prevention, early detection, and treatment. This day highlights efforts like cancer screenings, heart health, diabetes care, and nutrition to help patients manage chronic diseases.

We sometimes ask patients to wiggle their toes and gently clench their fists — and no, it’s not just to keep things fun. These small movements help activate the sympathetic nervous system, which can lead to a slight, natural increase in pupil size.

That tiny change can make a big difference in capturing high‑quality retinal images — especially when using non-mydriatic cameras with EyePACS. It’s a simple, no-drop trick that supports clearer photos and more accurate screenings, all while keeping the process quick and comfortable for patients.

So today, give those toes a wiggle — your eyes (and your retinal camera) might just thank you.

Everyone deserves the chance to see the world clearly — and for many, that chance is only possible because of the gift of eye donation.

August 1 was National Minority Donor Awareness Day, a moment to spotlight the urgent need for more organ, eye, and tissue donors in communities of color.

📊 Communities of color often face longer wait times and reduced access to life-changing donations.
💚 By increasing donor awareness and registration, we can help close that gap — restoring sight, dignity, and opportunity.
📣 At EyePACS, we're proud to support this mission, amplify donor stories, and encourage everyone to consider registering as a donor.

At EyePACS, we’re honored to serve communities across generations — and on Respect for Parents Day, we reflect on the powerful role parents play in shaping our values, our vision, and our future.

Parents are often the first to remind us to care for our health, including our eyesight. Whether it's driving to appointments, encouraging healthy habits, or simply leading by example, their support is foundational.

Today, and every day, we recognize and respect the incredible influence of parents — and we remain committed to making quality eye care accessible for the families who depend on them.

Our Story

Dr. Jorge Cuadros and Dr. Wyatt Tellis met during their Biological and Medical Information Science doctoral program at UC San Francisco in 2000. Dr. Cuadros had been working on telemedicine-based eye care programs since 1994. At the same time, Dr. Tellis was working in radiology informatics. Together, they began development of EyePACS in 2001. They launched their first diabetic retinopathy screening program in 2003 in a small community clinic run by UCSF Fresno.

In 2005, they partnered with California Health Care Foundation to build sustainable diabetic retinopathy screening programs in community clinics all over California. They launched a pilot program comprised of 13 sites in the Central Valley. They used EyePACS to upload images and the UC Berkeley clinical faculty interpreted the images. Due to the success of the pilot program, they were able to create more programs across the state. Today, over 600 organizations nationwide use EyePACS.
