For my birthday, I took on the Imogene Pass Run! It starts in Ouray, CO, and ends in Telluride, CO—10 miles climbing with a elevation gain of 3,000 ft to get up 13,114 ft, then 7 miles down the other side. Hands down the most challenging run I’ve ever done. Grateful I was able to finish… I guess this is my way of keeping myself young 😬.

Things I know are important to do daily and why

🍹I make sure I eat breakfast, I usually keep it simple and easy (typically it's a smoothie) to lessen the overwhelm of the morning getting ready for the day. This is important for me so I don't crash mid-morning, keep my energy levels up, and keep my hunger level steady.

🥪My days are usually busy so planning lunch or pre-packing lunch is essential for me to be able to eat mid-day and for my mind power and energy levels during the afternoon.

🥨I never know when hunger will hit. So having snacks available so I can honor my hunger and feed my body when it's signalling me it needs fuel.

🏃🏻‍♀️Scheduling movement into my day helps me make it a priority and stay consistent. Since it's been so hot, doing my run in the morning is essential. Otherwise when it's 98 degrees F in the afternoon, I definitely don't want to.

☀️Sunshine is super important to me. Just being able to feel the sun on my face lifts my spirits and helps me mentally. Or going for a sunset walk also does this for me.

🙌Showing myself grace and kindness is a work in practice. I am daily reminding myself it's not perfection I'm trying to get to, but making small easy steps to help me keep momentum in goals I'm hoping to achieve. Not everyday are rainbows and butterflies, but I have found giving myself a little kindness on the days that are tough helps me keep moving forward and continue to see the good in myself.

Just a gentle reminder that weight is not a behavior. So you can’t 100% control it. Even if you desire weight loss, very often if you learn to take the focus off of that scale number and stop 🛑 making dictate what you will eat or won’t eat and stop 🛑 using to determine how your going to feel about yourself that day and INSTEAD switch to focus on the things you CAN CONTROL. You just make end up feeling better about yourself, feeling healthier, and maybe even achieve that weight loss your wishing for.

I would love to guide you to learn how to focus on the things you can control like:
✨learning how your body tell you it’s time to eat
✨learning how to know when your body it telling you it’s had enough food.
✨creating meals you enjoy eating, satisfying, and make if feels it’s best
✨leaning how to show your body compassion vs always judging it and feeling it’s wrong
✨learning how to trust your body that it knows best

Do you ever have these thoughts?
😩No matter how hard or how much I workout, my times are not getting faster! 😩I feel slow and heavy legged!
😩All my teammates seem to be improving, but I’m not!
😩I really want to run a PR!

If so, it may be time to change your eating and fueling habits!

You can’t only rely on running workouts. You need to also give your body enough fuel!

3 ways you can improve your nutrition as a runner:

1️⃣Fuel up with carbs at least 1-3 hours before your run. ⤵️

simple, easy to digest carbs are the quickest fuel. Aim to eat 25 gm of carbs before your workouts.

2️⃣Make food part of your team ⤵️

Running workouts + good will help you feel stronger, reach your PRS, get you faster times, & help you feel your improving.

3️⃣Let go of the idea Skinny=Faster ⤵️

This type of mindset can cause you to not eat enough. Being thin doesn’t make you faster, being FUELED does!

Reframing your mindset to move away from rigid rules with food takes time, commitment, and you will be relearning things you have learned about nutrition.

Depending where you are stuck I’ll break down some ways to refocus for you 👇🏼

🍏 Lack of energy? ⤵️

💫Focus on building a balanced plate filled with carbs + protein+ color + fat.

🍏 Not sure what’s “right" or "wrong"
to eat?⤵️

💫Focus on what you enjoy eating and what brings you the most satisfaction.

🍏 Under or Overeat? ⤵️

💫Focus on learning your hunger and fullness cues.

I help active individuals eat & exercise without rigid rules to they feel stronger and more energized. I teach my clients how to ✨honor their hunger so they are not only fueled for their activities, but also just daily living.
✨Remove labels from food and stop putting a moral value of food and understand all food gives you nutrition.
✨Stop letting that number on the scale be your guide on how you feel about yourself that day or what and how much your going to eat.

There is no reason to push your hunger away or wait until your normal time you eat. You’re going to feel much better when learn to listen and trust your body when it tells you it needs nourishment. Honor it by eating.

Your body will thank you 🙏 and you can move on with the rest of your day with more focus and energy🥇
