✨STAFF SPOTLIGHT✨
Ellen Stone, OT
Occupational Therapist
I’m a pediatric occupational therapist with over twelve years of experience supporting children in both clinic and school-based settings. Originally from northeastern Oklahoma, I moved to Santa Fe in 2001 to attend the College of Santa Fe, where I earned a degree focused on art therapy, with a major in psychology and a minor in art.
Following graduation, I worked as support staff and a service coordinator through the Mi Via and DD Waivers, which deepened my commitment to serving individuals with diverse needs. I went on to earn my master’s degree in occupational therapy from the University of New Mexico, where I was also a LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities) Fellow through UNM’s Center for Development and Disability.
Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of working extensively with Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and am fluent in American Sign Language. My practice is rooted in neurodiversity-affirming and holistic care. I specialize in supporting foundational vestibular processing, functional vision, self-regulation, sensory processing, and motor planning to enhance children’s ability to participate in a wide variety of meaningful activities of daily living.

✨STAFF SPOTLIGHT✨
Hi, I’m Alex (she/her), a Clinical Fellow Speech-Language Pathologist from Santa Fe, NM. I recently earned my M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and am passionate about providing neurodiversity-affirming, empowering care.
After grad school, I took a year to reconnect with my creative side—spending time painting, spending time with family, and embracing the transition before beginning this next chapter in my career.

My clinical interests include AAC, early intervention, fluency, speech sound & language disorders, and gender-affirming voice therapy. I’ve worked in schools, skilled nursing, outpatient, and mobile adult settings, and love supporting communication across the lifespan.
I’m so excited to be back in my hometown and to begin this next chapter with the amazing team here at Santa Fe Therapy Associates!

✨STAFF SPOTLIGHT✨
Shannen Gonzales, OT
Occupational Therapist

Shannen Gonzales is a dedicated pediatric occupational therapist with a passion for helping children grow, thrive, and feel confident in their daily lives. Born in Santa Fe and raised in the rural community of Vadito, New Mexico, Shannen’s commitment to occupational therapy was shaped by her experience growing up in an underserved area, where access to specialized services was limited. This understanding of the challenges families face inspired her to give back to her community by offering compassionate, accessible care that empowers children and families to thrive.

She earned her Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) degree from the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque and completed her undergraduate studies at UNM-Taos. Her clinical experience spans early intervention (birth to age 3) and school-based settings (grades pre-k-5th), where she has supported children with a wide range of developmental needs. Working in a variety of areas, including fine and gross motor skills, visual-motor integration, sensory processing and regulation, emotional development, self-care, and promoting meaningful social participation.

Shannen uses a holistic, play-based approach to make therapy fun, engaging, and meaningful for each child. Her sessions are tailored to each child’s strengths, needs, and interests, with a focus on building confidence and independence in their daily lives. Her goal is to create a safe and nurturing space where children feel empowered, supported, and celebrated.

When she’s not working, Shannen loves spending time with her family. She’s often found cheering on her daughters at basketball and softball games, supporting their musical interests, or staying active outdoors whether hiking, biking, or exploring the mountains near her hometown of Taos. She also enjoys weight lifting, trying out new hobbies, and when time allows winding down with a good podcast or book.

A lifelong learner Shannen like to stay up to date with current research and evidence-based practices in pediatric occupational therapy. She is proud to bring her heart, expertise, and dedication to Santa Fe Therapy Associates.
