Did you know that an estimated 316,950 women and 2,800 men in the US will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year?

Incredibly, breast cancer death rates in the United States have dropped by 44% since 1989. This is largely due to improved treatments, as well as millions of people taking action by going for regular screenings. So this is your reminder to get screened during Breast Cancer Awareness Month!

Keep in mind that *anyone* who has breast tissue has the potential to develop breast cancer, regardless of gender, so talk to your healthcare provider about your risk and which screenings (if any) they recommend for you.

In general, the American Cancer Society recommends that people between the ages of 45 and 54 who are at average risk for breast cancer (most people) get a mammogram every year. Those who are ages 40 to 44 can opt to start mammograms, and those who are 55 and older can switch to every other year if they desire.

Happy birthday to us! 🥳 Looking back to 2020 when we got started, so much about the world and about AXCES has changed.

When we started, our goal was to continue a legacy of offering life-saving research options to our community. While doing that we were able to create a safe place for the Santa Fe community to get tested for COVID. As the pandemic wore on and we got vaccines, we added clinical trials that would make more cutting-edge medical advancements available to historically underserved communities at no cost to them. Then we expanded to Albuquerque, then eventually El Paso and Salt Lake City.

Now, at our 5th birthday, we’ve expanded our offerings in Santa Fe to LGBTQ+-focused primary care; HIV testing, prevention, and treatment; perimenopause and menopause care; Hep C testing and treatment; and more.

Throughout all these changes, we’ve kept our focus the same: Bring excellent care to our communities, especially those that have historically been overlooked, underserved, ignored, or even minimized. As we look toward the next 5 years, no matter how we evolve our services, this focus will never change.

Thanks to everyone who has been part of the AXCES community for the last 5 years!
