"The mouth is home to about 700 species of bacteria, including those that can cause periodontal (gum) disease. A recent analysis led by NIA scientists suggests that bacteria that cause gum disease are also associated with the development of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, especially vascular dementia. The results were reported in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease."

A study conducted by the NIA suggests that older adults with gum disease may be more likely to develop dementia.

Santa Fe Doorways is a group of community members who gather on a monthly basis to provide education and awareness regarding end-of-life concerns and quality-of-life in our latter years. We invite dialogue on the deeper meaning of life’s final phase. We offer meetings and presentations which are free and open to the public.
