Join us as we celebrate Black Maternal Health Week April 11th-17th with the theme “Our Bodies Belong to Us: Restoring Black Autonomy and Joy!”

This week, A Mother's Choice will be highlighting the beautiful Mother/Birther and infant dyad through Womb Cycle. Without healthy Mothers/Birthers there are no healthy babies.

Black Maternal Health and Black Infant Mortality rates are closely connected. As we celebrate and honor Black Mothers and Black Birthers we will dive into why Black infant mortality is a public health crisis by addressing what the CDC currently identifies as the top five causes of black infant mortality.

Make sure you FOLLOW, LIKE, SHARE, and COMMENT to stay in the loop. Check out www.wombcycle.org to learn more and support Beautiful Black Families!

Mohawk Word of the Day: Iakoronhiá:ken

When you have to tell your Tota that one of your cousins is in labor but Tota only speaks Mohawk these days..we got you!

Ia: YA (is in, 'ya wanna go?')
Ko: Gō | (is in Go but the o sound is drawn out, not followed through with the "owe" sound)
Ronh: LOONH (like you are saying 'loon' but taking out the followed through 'n' sound and giving the 'nh' a chestier sound)
Iá: YÁ (Almost like you are saying 'y'all' but theres no ll's)
: is a small divider in the word for a short pause
Ken: GUHN (like gun, just less follow through on the n sound and you make the sound from your chest/throat contraction)

You guys are learning Mohawk and doing great!!!!

Research shows that midwifery care provides equal or better care and outcomes compared to physician care on many key indicators, including higher rates of spontaneous vaginal birth, higher rates of breastfeeding, higher birthing person satisfaction with care, and lower overall costs. Community-based and -led midwifery services are especially powerful. Yet in the United States, midwives attend only about 10 percent of births; in nearly all other nations, midwives provide the majority of first-line maternity care to childbearing people and newborns, with far better outcomes.
