This weekly class is perfect for people who have an injury, recent surgery, chronic pain, or any other physical or mental ailment that requires some TLC! Each month classes will be focused on specific health issues so you can feel your best everyday. All levels of yoga experience are welcome.

August Focus: Knees

Yoga Therapy for the knee is most useful for low grade irritations related directly to tracking issues and muscles tightness/weakness. It is important to look “globally” at the whole alignment from the pelvis to the feet. We will work with tracking, increasing flexibility and strength in the leg muscles to support the knees.

Week 1 - August 7:

Tracking of the knee in yoga poses and daily life to improve alignment, and decrease pain and possible injury.

Week 2 - August 14:

Strengthening of the muscles that promote healthy knees: glutes (maximus, medius), quads, hamstrings

Week 3 - August 21:

Stretching muscles to ease pressure on the knee: ab/adductors (inner & outer thighs), hamstrings and quads

Week 4 - August 28:

A look at some chronic knee conditions and therapeutic yoga applications that can help. Putting it all together in a healthy knee practice, plus tips for how to work with bow legged and knock knee alignment.

This weekly class is perfect for people who have an injury, recent surgery, chronic pain, or any other physical or mental ailment that requires some TLC! Each month classes will be focused on specific health issues so you can feel your best every day. All levels of yoga experience are welcome.

July Focus: Feet and Ankles
Your feet and ankles provide your foundation, your grounding, and stability (physically, emotionally, and mentally). How you stand on your feet affects your health from the bottom up.

Week 1 (July 3): Flexibility and strengthening
Ideally, your toes should move as freely as your fingers. We will work with active and passive ways to create more toe flexibility, toe spreading, adducting, and strengthening as well as developing more flexibility and strength in the sole of the foot, ankles calves, and shins.
Week 2 (July 10): Ankle hypermobility/ankle strengthening
Our practice will focus on decreasing hypermobility by strengthening and stabilizing around the ankle and using our inner core of support
Week 3 (July 17) NO CLASS
Week 4 (July 24): Specific conditions
We’ll take a look at the following conditions and how they affect the kinetic chain of the body from feet to head as well as learn ways of practicing to bring our feet back into better balance and comfort .

• pronation (low arches, flat feet)/supination (high arches)

• pigeon vs. duck toes

• plantar fasciitis

• bunions
Week 5 (July 31): Yoga practice for the feet
Standing poses to create grounding, stability, and good alignment
from the bottom up

Come join me this month in my therapeutic yoga class at YogaSource on Mondays from 2:00-3:30pm MDT, either virtually or in person, to begin healing your neck and shoulders.

June 6th
We’ll take a look at our habitual, repetitive postures in our daily life that perpetuate our discomfort and pain such as kyphosis (rounded upper back) and anterior head carriage aka the “hurried New Yorker” and begin developing greater awareness of how we can establish healthier habits and learn techniques to improve posture and support the shoulder girdle, neck and head.

June 13th
We’ll begin strengthening the abdominal core which helps support the shoulder girdle, neck, and head from underneath. can become locked long and weak when our head, neck, and shoulder girdle are out of alignment, for example, as in kyphosis and anterior head carriage. And we’ll also strengthen the mid-back core, ie. the muscles that support the shoulder girdle and are essential for stabilization and support.

June 20th
We’ll continue strengthening around the neck and shoulder girdle and learn how to strengthen the neck core, which is essential to stabilizing and supporting the neck and the head. And do some chest opening supported postures.

June 27th
We’ll put this all together in a practice that includes posture, strengthening, and mobility.
