PEDIATRIC VIDEO NOTES, Goodheart:
"Pregnant mothers
Musculoskeletal problems may be increased due to ligamentous problems. Manganese is needed as a raw material for ligaments, discs, etc.
Pre-existing mechanical faults of the body may be exacerbated by the “loosening” seen due to the hormones of pregnancy, which are released by the mother in order to loosen the pelvis so that the baby can pass through.
Many times you find a woman who’s been having a really rough and painful pregnancy for 6 months, and then suddenly they’ll begin to feel good, sometimes better than they have in years. At this time the mother is beginning to get relief of HER adrenal stress problem by siphoning off her child’s adrenal gland production. “Adrenal Vampirism.” After 6 months the fetus produces its own adreno-cortical hormones and these will cross the placenta and be used by the mother. Sometimes a woman will say that only when she is pregnant does she feel good. In older times, many women with arthritis would find relief from pregnancy. The baby can be born already in the “exhaustion stage” that Selye talked about.
Hans Selye said it: “God will forgive you, but your nervous system will not.”
Varicosities of pregnancy. Adrenal glands frequently involved. Adrenal glands keep the blood from pooling in the abdomen, due to its vasoconstrictive activity. (There are valves in the lower extremities every 1/3 of an inch or so.) This pooling of blood in the abdomen, added to the presence of the fetus in the abdomen, produces back pressure upon the veins of the legs and makes for the varicosities. Liver function (portal congestion) also needs to be treated.
The medullary section of the adrenal has an effect on the pupil of the eye. Niacin is needed – this is in Drenamin.
Women who complain of feet hurting. Posterior tibialis supports the arch and will be weak…related to the adrenal glands. If you don’t treat the adrenal glands, this muscle may stay weak. You adjust and so on, but if the feet still hurt, check adrenal supplementation against posterior tibialis weakness.
Study: CSF flow throughout body.
Journal of the Canadian Medical Association, January 1968. Steer & H***y took animals and withdrew a certain amount of CSF from the animals’ spines. They mixed this with small particulate sized colored latex. Then they put the spinal fluid back in again mixed with the latex that had a particular color. They ligated the sciatic nerve behind the knee on some of the animals, and didn’t do it in other animals. They then sacrificed some of the animals at particular intervals (5, 7, 12, 14, 19 days) after the addition of the colored latex particles was put into their CSF. In each instance they were able to demonstrate the fact that the latex material was in most terminal portions of the smallest nerve fibers in the terminal digits of the animals feet. Which means that spinal fluid flows! But on the animal that had the sciatic nerve ligated, the CSF didn’t flow past this. This is documented material that has been referenced very well.
On convulsive or hyperactive children, you can “cocoon” them. Get a cotton blanket and wrap them tightly in it. Then tape them to the table. You can also use flexi-urethane tape for the head. The child will struggle against this for 3 or 4 minutes, and then they’ll give up. You can also get a pacifier and dip it in brandy. Many children can be dipped in hot water and this will reduce their convulsions…old fashioned treatment. Check rib pump need (pumping of CSF up and down the spine) in these children. The child quickly adapts to this.
Folic Acid testing pattern: a patient who keeps coming back with problems, or who is always switched. Have patient contract all their muscles: in the legs first, then the pelvis, then the abdomen, chest, neck. If they reweaken, recorrect them. Then have them put Folic Acid in the mouth and recontract all the muscles…there should be no weakening. This is a classic Folic Acid pattern. Folic acid helps the body remember the length the muscles should be.
Later in the pregnancy, due to the increased production of reproductive hormones, the need for low-dose vitamin E will arise. Calcium is also needed frequently at this time. Lead contamination is common in calcium from veal bone. Need to insure that company whose calcium they use is free of lead."
