Stillpoint Counseling & Mindfulness Training, llc. Vision: Stillpoint envisions a world in which people of all ages and all educational, cultural and economic backgrounds can, through moment-to-moment awareness, step out of destructive patterns of reactivity and choose to act with greater insight, wisdom and clarity for the benefit and healing of ourselves, our families, our communities, and the world at large. Stillpoint was founded by Janet Curry, MA, LPC, to offer multiple approaches to cultivating greater health, vitality and ease. With the unpredictable and ever-changing nature of the world never more apparent than it is today, many of us are experiencing stress on an unprecedented scale. We feel it financially, in our jobs, in our families and in our health—mental, physical and emotional. In such a climate, the decision to explore ways of coping more skillfully with stress and dis-ease is not only pro-active but also wise. It is a way of taking charge of your own health and well-being—your own life—and of discovering and recovering your own inner resources for coping, growing and healing. Stillpoint offers two main pathways for developing these inner resources: Individual and Couples Counseling and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) in Durango, which is modeled on the internationally acclaimed group health care program founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Participating in counseling is a potentially life-changing means of becoming more aware of who you actually are, including your patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. Many people seek counseling for relief of the stress, pain, or suffering they are experiencing, be that on a physical, mental, emotional or spiritual level. In my counseling practice, as in my personal life, I find that stress, discomfort, or even pain can be powerful catalysts for positive change. When we can find ways of bringing our full creativity, intelligence and compassion to the challenge of looking deeply into our lives, counseling becomes the beginning of a life-long process of self-reflection, self-discovery and liberation from confining definitions of self, others and the world. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in Durango Course Description:

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) in Durango is modeled on the internationally acclaimed program created at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1979 by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD. In the past thirty years, over 17,000 people have graduated from the MBSR course at UMass, many of whom have been referred by over 5,000 physicians. Tens of thousands more individuals have participated in the over 350 MBSR programs now offered in hospitals, clinics and by independent providers on five continents. Over 300 individuals have now graduated from Stillpoint’s MBSR program since it was first offered in January ’07. Participants have ranged in age from 21 to 84.
