Ever Evolving Endeavors

With a love for nature, my husband and I set out to find a way to raise our family on the road. We found that freedom by traveling around and learning trades that we continue to grow our knowledge and experience in. Harvesting and collecting gems, minerals, and fossils from around the country for over 6 years has taken us to places off the beaten path and rarely seen by m

any people. It is exhilarating to find a piece yourself and bring out the hidden beauty within by cutting, shaping and polishing it into a brilliant new form for all to see. Then through a variety of techniques we turn those specimens into wonderful pieces of jewelry. Today we have a very eclectic selection of products that are all created by us, with the sole purpose of showcasing what the earth has created. Taught by James Robinson Hornfeather, I hand carve feathers from various materials such as horn, antler, tusks, amber, and anything I find that is able to be carved by my hand file. The feathers are then transformed into unique pendants, earrings and bracelets or displayed as art. I have taken what he has taught me and grown into my own style with the hopes of continuing his dream of ensuring that everyone has a feather. With an ever driving passion to promote a more conscientious world that reduces its consumption and misuse of non-renewable resources, I have used a collective of knowledge bestowed upon me by many amazing and talented artist to design several lines of up-cycled apparel and accessories. I am constantly learning new ways to recreate the desire for something that is considered out dated or unusable. So please check out our ever evolving endeavor and hopefully you will find something that inspires you.

As I am reading Old Growth Children this morning, the highlighted passage and sentence pictured, really grabbed my attention.

I have been attending REGENERATE farm conference here in Santa Fe this week, and at an agroforestry workshop, TEK was discussed. An indigenous lady in my breakout group talked about “land back” being vitally important to regeneration.

This passage, “When we reach the edge of easy energy, balance and renewal are the only way forward, wherein there is a reciprocal cycle between early and late successional systems, each opening the door for the other” made me feel a new definition for what “land back” can also represent. It can be about returning the land to its natural state of being, returning it to its indigenous roots, no matter what entity may believe it holds ownership over a parcel.

TEK is a vital part of Regeneration and Braiding Sweetgrass is wonderful way to introduce people to these concepts.

Side note: the pentagon which is featured in the definition of TEK is also a geometric symbol for Regeneration in ancient civilizations and in nature.
