Our Story
Our Story:
Active Physical Therapy was created in 2002 by husband and wife physical therapists to find a better way to do outpatient physical therapy. Most outpatient PT’s work in busy, loud clinics, and for years we worked there too, seeing that the customers were getting the short end of the stick: very little time with their PT (more time with minimally trained “aides", even some time all alone), discomfort with the impersonal nature of the overall clinic environment, being treated like just a number, general treatments thrown together like a “cookbook” because there just wasn’t enough time to customize the experience.
This was suboptimal for the patients and bad for us as clinicians too. This wasn’t why we went into PT- to juggle and orchestrate the rapid flow of patients- we went into this to to learn and use our skills to help people feel better and get back to doing what they want to do in their lives - not delegating care to unlicensed aides, with whom patients don’t even know if they’re doing their exercises correctly or getting the specific care that they really need.
While working in these big clinics, we tried our best to personalize care- running from patient to patient in an attempt to use hands-on care, prescribe exercises and teach about how to move their bodies to get themselves better, only to have to delegate away important aspects of care, like exercises and massage, to unlicensed staff. Not good. Not what we or the patients signed up for.
The turnaround came after remembering some of the things we liked working at smaller clinics with less of a “mill-like” setting, and it got us thinking… “Wouldn’t it be awesome to treat only one patient per hour?!" So in 2002 we quit, founding our company based on one-on-one treatments exclusively with a licensed PT for each entire session. To do this, we kept our overhead low and relied mostly on word-of-mouth referrals from our clients and from a select few MD’s and Nurse Practitioners that “got it”- not fancy contracts with insurance companies that would have required us to see more patients per hour to scrape by.
Since then, we’ve also grown an awareness of the importance of the mind in healing, and as such, we have created a peaceful, quiet, welcoming environment to foster this.
Since 2002, a growing number of doctors have seen the benefits of this paradigm of care in their patients, and have consistently referred to us: orthopedists, neurologists, family practice, chiropractors and acupuncturists, not to mention our amazing clients who refer friends, family and coworkers (check out our “Testimonials” page to read their voices).
We created this company for a better patient experience, a better experience for treating PT’s and a better resource for people to refer the people they care about for help with pain and loss of mobility.
One of the cool things about PT is that you can chose where you want to go- regardless of where your doctor says you need to go or where you’ve gone before. Not only that, you don’t even need a referral from a doctor! That’s right, you can get PT without a prescription!
There are lots of ways to get some help. You can contact us to enquire about an appointment or fill in a “request an appointment” form on our website. And if you’re not ready to book an appointment, you can even schedule a free 10 minute phone consultation with a PT so see if PT is right for you and if talking to a PT first would help you decide. If that’s still too much for you, you can request a free report, such as "5 uncommon but effective tips to relieve nearly any type of pain….” just to get you started on the healing process: just email your request to info@Active-Physical-Therapy.com or fill out a request form on our website Active-Physical-Therapy.com.
Let’s get you back to your life.
Yours in healing,
