And sometimes, they live on your eyelids; this is called Demodex blepharitis.

It is

1. More common than people think
2. Damaging to your ocular surface
3. Can by completely asymptomatic- you don't even KNOW they're there

Schedule an eye exam and ask your eye doctor to check for Demodex to ensure that your eyelids, and your eyes, are safe

Demodex mites are microscopic arachnids, related to spiders and ticks.

They make their home in the hair follicles and sebaceous glands of human skin, particularly on the face, forehead, nose, and eyelashes.

Nearly every adult carries these mites, where they reside as a normal part of the human skin microbiome.

These tiny creatures feed on the natural sebum oil and dead skin cells produced by the skin, effectively cleaning out our pores, making humans their entire ecosystem and source of survival.

They are mostly active at night, when they emerge from pores to mate and navigate the surface, before returning to lay eggs within the hair follicles.

A notable, and somewhat unsettling, biological aspect is that they do not possess an a**s, leading them to store their f***s internally for their entire roughly two-week lifespan, eventually dying and breaking down within the pore.
