: 115 N95 masks were evaluated for multiple use. When masks were used for more than 2 days, the odds ratio for failure was 7.1. Failure by day: Day 1=3 of 28, Day 2 = 2 of 29, Day 3 = 9 of 26, Day 4 = 5 of 11 failed and Day 5 = 10 of 21.

With a worldwide shortage of N95 masks, healthcare workers have been forced to reuse masks intended for single use.

: Researchers looked at 461,000 women (15-44 yo) with COVID. 89% were symptomatic and 6.6% were pregnant. Pregnant women (vs non-pregnant women) were more likely to: be admitted to the ICU (10.5 vs 3.9/1,000), receive invasive ventilation (2.9 vs 1.1/1,000) and to die (1.5 vs 1.2/1,000). Pregnant Hispanic women were at 2.4 times the risk of death.

This report describes pregnancy and infant outcomes among approximately 5,252 women with laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection reported during ...

: 17 mens and womens soccer players (N=45) tested positive for COVID. During contact tracing, 18 social events were identified including a birthday party and an unsanctioned soccer game with players from both teams. Symptomatic and asymptomatic students reported little to no mask use or social distancing at the social events.

This report describes an investigation of 17 COVID-19 cases among a university’s men’s and women’s soccer team in Chicago, Illinois.

: Pregnant women with a confirmed COVID diagnosis had an increased risk of preterm birth and
C-section vs non-COVID pregnant women. Risk of transmission from mother to baby during the pregnancy or childbirth was very low. Babies who did get COVID had very mild symptoms.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak is evolving rapidly worldwide. However, little is known about the association between pregnant women with COVID-19 and the risk of adverse birth outcomes. We conducted a retrospective cohort study based on the Maternal and Child Health Information Sys...

: It has been reported that a 28 yo doctor in Brazil who was part of the Oxford University vaccine study died of COVID complications. It is not known whether he was in the vaccine or placebo arm of the study. He worked on the front line combating COVID-19 at 3 different hospitals.

It is not yet known whether the death is related to the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca.

: 299 Korean-nationals were evacuated from Italy at the end of March. One passenger tested positive on quarantine day 8. Researchers suspect she was infected when she removed her mask while in the restroom. There were 6 asymptomatic passengers on the 11-hour flight who tested positive upon arriving in Korea and never developed symptoms.

We conducted a cohort study in a controlled environment to measure asymptomatic transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 on a f...

: Two men suffered 2nd and worse bouts of COVID19 two months after their first positive test. Gene tests showed two slightly different strains of the virus, suggesting that they caught the infection twice. Vaccines may need to be tweaked as the virus evolves, and people may need regular boosters to maintain their protection.

A 25-year-old man from Nevada and a 42-year-old man in Virginia experienced second bouts of COVID-19 about 2 months after they tested positive the first time.

: Although untested, the flu vaccine may offer some protection against COVID respiratory infections. There's growing evidence that any live vaccines (oral polio, measles, live flu) can offer some broad, nonspecific protection. The only flu vaccine that contains live, attenuated flu virus is the nasal spray, FluMist.

There's evidence that certain vaccines boost the body's defense against many kinds of illness. Scientists are investigating whether this benefit extends to protection from COVID-19.

: Two studies showed that some people harbor T cells that target the SARS-CoV-2 virus and may help them recover. Both studies found that those never infected with the virus have these cellular defenses, most likely because they were previously infected with other common cold coronaviruses.

New findings suggest past infections may offer some protection against the novel coronavirus

: Moderna has slowed volunteer recruitment (target: 30,000) for its Phase III vaccine trial, because private contractors failed to recruit enough Black, Latino and Native Americans. Only 7% of volunteers are Black, however, Blacks represent 13% of the population.

Private contractors hired by Moderna Inc to recruit volunteers for its coronavirus vaccine trial failed to enroll enough Black, Latino and Native American participants to determine how well the vaccine works in these populations, company executives and vaccine researchers...

: In a study of 106 recovered COVID19 patients, most developed neutralizing antibodies at 2 wks. However, levels of these protective antibodies decreased significantly after 6 wks. This supports previous study findings that neutralizing antibodies subside within 2 mo.

Prévost et al. report a cross-sectional study on a cohort of 106 COVID-19 patients and show that most infected individuals are able to elicit a sustained antibody response over time. However, plasma neutralizing capacity wanes after infection resolution, but its implication on protection from re-i...
