If your doctor has recommended a PET-CT scan, you may be wondering what to expect. This advanced imaging test combines PET (Positron Emission Tomography) and CT (Computed Tomography) to help detect cancer, evaluate heart conditions, and assess certain neurological disorders.
Here’s what typically happens during your visit:
1️⃣ Preparation – A technologist administers a small amount of a safe radiotracer through an IV.
2️⃣ Uptake Period – You’ll relax comfortably for about 30–60 minutes while the tracer travels through your body.
3️⃣ The Scan – You’ll lie on the scanner table as it moves slowly through the PET-CT machine, capturing detailed images of how your organs and tissues are functioning.
4️⃣ Completion – The scan usually takes about 20–30 minutes.
This powerful combination of imaging provides physicians with highly detailed information to guide diagnosis and treatment decisions.
At Tower Saint John’s Imaging, our experienced team ensures every PET-CT exam is performed with precision, comfort, and care.
