Saint John's Health Center Foundation

Saint John's Health Center Foundation We provide leadership and philanthropic support to Providence Saint John’s Health Center.

Incorporated in 1975 as a separate tax-exempt 501(c)(3) corporation to advance the mission and goals of the Health Center, the Saint John’s Heath Center Foundation is governed by an all volunteer board of directors and trustees, who bring their leadership skills to ensure that Saint John’s Health Center is here for their community – now and in the future. Trustees work tirelessly with the Foundati

on staff to vision, plan, initiate and maintain structured programs of support for the Health Center’s capital, equipment, programmatic needs, community outreach and to carry forward the Health Center’s mission of compassionate care. When the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth came west to build Saint John’s, generous neighbors helped these pioneering women purchase the land upon which Saint John’s Health Center campus stands. The Foundation grew out of the original Saint John’s Hospital Guild founded in 1947 to carry forward the mission of compassionate care set forth by the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. That mission is continued now through the healing ministry of Providence Health & Services. The Foundation is the chief financial engine contributing to state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, technology, programs and services at the Health Center as well as ground-breaking cancer research at the John Wayne Cancer Institute.

During National Volunteer Week, we’re celebrating caregivers like Dana Rivera, whose journey as a stroke survivor inspired her to give back and help others find hope.

As a volunteer at Providence Saint John’s Health Center, Dana helped shape the hospital’s peer‑led stroke support group, offering survivors and caregivers something only lived experience can provide: understanding, encouragement and connection.

Volunteers like Dana make a meaningful difference every day that go far beyond our hospital walls.

Thanks to all who joined us for breakfast at the State of the Health Center earlier this month! The event highlighted key milestones at Providence Saint John’s Health Center including Magnet designation and the launch of the Christine H. Newman Center for Nursing Excellence.

We are deeply grateful to Chris and Dick Newman for their extraordinary generosity, which has brought us nearly halfway toward our $25 million nursing endowment goal. We also extend our sincere gratitude to David Ho and his wife, Martha, whose $5.4 million commitment for a Varian Ethos Linear Accelerator will significantly advance cancer care for Saint John's Cancer Institute's patients.

We concluded with a truly historic announcement: a legacy commitment estimated at $100 million from the late Stan Lucas—the Foundation’s largest gift ever. Inspired by his own care at Saint John’s, Stan’s extraordinary generosity will shape the future of prostate cancer care for generations.

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in the United States, yet it is also one of the most preventable and treatable when detected early. At Saint John's, colorectal cancer awareness and screening remain critical priorities.
