Hi I'm Michelle! I'm the kind of therapist that listens well and also shares observations and feedback to help you create real change in your life. Sometimes that means change in your external environment, and sometimes it means change in your internal thoughts and feelings. Either way, it is important to me that therapy will benefit you and help you grow.
My first career was in Education. I earned a Masters in Education from the University of Southern California and became an Educator for the Deaf. I started out at a nonprofit learning center and theater program for children with hearing loss. Eventually I worked my way into roles as a Public School Teacher, Private Educational Specialist, and Nonprofit Director.
In 2012, I decided to go back to school to study Psychology at Pepperdine, where I began my journey to become a therapist. As a Certified EMDR Therapist, Clinical Trauma Professional, and expert in addiction, I have held Clinical Director and Therapist positions at a number of rehabs across Southern CA and researched psychological trauma and neuroscience with teams at Cedars-Sinai.
In therapy, I use an eclectic approach that may include DBT, CBT, IFS, EMDR, Brainspotting, Gottman Method, and other modalities. I am also a CAMFT Certified Supervisor who trains new professionals. In 2021, I founded a group practice called King Family Therapy, where I work with other skilled therapists.
As for my own therapy - it started out in a dance studio. I started classes at age 3 and danced through college and into professional arenas, including teaching to children and teens. With a continued passion for dance and music, I still love going to concerts and finding new music artists. And most importantly, I genuinely adore working in therapy.
