Our bodies store a lot of stress, both physically and mentally. Setting periodic reminders to scan and release tension can replenish your reserves, leading to more clarity of focus, reduced fatigue, and better performance.

This morning I got an early start presenting to a great group of dance educators about communication in the classroom. We covered a variety of topics aimed at how to shift from a traditional or historical model of communication and values in the classroom to one that is based on sport psychology.

Setbacks are part of recovery from any mental health disorder. Whether you are struggling with Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, Addiction, Eating Disorders, or any other symptoms, it's important to remember that progress is not linear.

When my patients experience a setback, I remind them to take a breath and reassess. How frequently are they feeling the symptoms? How intensely do they feel it? How are they coping with it? When they compare to how it was before we started working together, they can gain insight into how much progress they have made. Doing this helps to motivate and empower you to keep working on yourself.

Like Alice famously says “It's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then.” We are constantly changing through every experience. Challenging or traumatic experiences may feel like a huge setback, but how we integrate what we learn from them and how we choose to reshape ourselves is what builds a resilient mind.

I just returned from an amazing psychophysiology workshop in Napa. It was wonderful meeting and reconnecting with colleagues in the field. Learning about and experiencing neuromodulation from some of the top of the field, and how it can benefit my patients was very exciting. And of course, got to fit in a wine tasting or two!!!

Why do I incorporate Neurofeedback into my therapy sessions? Sometimes we are so overwhelmed that we aren't able to get in touch with our deepest feelings. When we work on self-regulation, that's when the real work begins in terms of gaining insight and making changes. When we quiet the mind and body, we are able to be more present and immersed in the moment, leading to better focus and performance.
