Department of Translational Neurosciences and Neurotherapeutics

Department of Translational Neurosciences and Neurotherapeutics John Wayne Cancer Institute at Providence Saint John's Health Center UC San Diego is the region’s only comprehensive brain tumor treatment program.

Brain tumors remain a major cause of cancer-related disability and death despite advances in surgery and imaging. The Brain Tumor Unit at Moores UC San Diego Cancer Center combines clinical expertise with cutting-edge research to optimize treatment. At UC San Diego, the partnership between physicians and research scientists creates the best patient care available. For our patients, this means access to a multidisciplinary team of specialists and innovative clinical research studies. Meanwhile, we continue our work to discover more effective strategies to prevent, control, and ultimately cure brain tumors. We utilize molecular diagnostics, gene expression analysis in addition to other clinical data to personalize treatment plans for each patient based on an in-depth understanding of each patient’s individual tumor. With its multidisciplinary approach the Brain Tumor Unit at Moores UC San Diego Cancer Center provides comprehensive care and advanced treatment options. These include surgery, conventional conformal and focused radiation (stereotactic radiosurgery with gamma Knife and LINAC-Pinnacle) and chemotherapy, as well as clinical trials using novel and experimental therapies.
