Light sensitivity can significantly impact daily life for individuals living with migraine.

In this blog, Alexander M. Solomon, MD, surgical neuro-ophthalmologist at Pacific Neuroscience Institute, explores the potential benefits of FL-41 tinted lenses, sometimes referred to as migraine glasses. These lenses are designed to filter specific wavelengths of light that may contribute to photophobia and migraine triggers.

Although research on migraine glasses is still developing, some studies suggest that tinted lenses may help reduce light sensitivity and improve comfort for certain patients. Because responses vary, individuals may benefit from consulting an eye care professional to determine whether this approach could support their migraine management plan.

Lifestyle choices can play an important role in supporting cognitive health.

In this blog, Jennifer Bramen, PhD, Senior Research Scientist at Pacific Neuroscience Institute, outlines the Vital 6—six research-supported lifestyle areas that form the foundation of the Institute’s Brain Wellness & Lifestyle Program. These include brain training, sleep, exercise, nutrition, stress management, and social engagement.

The Vital 6 are also central to the PREVENTION clinical trial, which is studying how structured lifestyle interventions and coaching support may help individuals experiencing cognitive decline, including Alzheimer’s disease.

Read the blog to learn how these multidomain lifestyle strategies may support long-term brain health.

A brain tumor diagnosis brings challenges that extend well beyond the medical condition itself. Patients and families often face uncertainty, emotional strain, and difficult decisions while navigating treatment.

In this episode of the Think Neuro Podcast, Shanthi Gowrinathan, MD, cancer psychiatrist at Pacific Neuroscience Institute, discusses the role of psycho-oncology in supporting people with brain tumor throughout their care journey.

Dr. Gowrinathan shares insights on helping patients maintain their identity during treatment, addressing anxiety and depression related to cancer care, and supporting families as they adapt to life-changing diagnoses. Her work highlights how mental health care plays an important role in improving quality of life and treatment outcomes.

Progressive vision loss led a 52-year-old patient to seek answers. Imaging revealed a meningioma, and she traveled from New York to Los Angeles for treatment with Dr. Daniel Kelly at Pacific Neuroscience Institute.

Using a minimally invasive endoscopic endonasal technique, Dr. Kelly removed the tumor through the nasal passage, avoiding a traditional open craniotomy. This approach allows surgeons to access complex skull base tumors while minimizing disruption to surrounding tissue.

March is Essential Tremor Awareness Month, highlighting the most common movement disorder and the importance of early evaluation.

At Pacific Neuroscience Institute, neurologist Dr. Natalie Diaz helps patients determine the cause of their tremor and review treatment options. For certain patients, Focused Ultrasound offers a non-invasive option that precisely targets tremor-causing brain circuits.

In collaboration with Insightec, PNI continues expanding access to this technology for patients living with essential tremor.
