The California Department of Aging is proposing a change to the formula that determines funding for aging services that will result in a 17% reduction to annual funding in Los Angeles County. This could reduce essential services for older adults such as home-delivered meals, congregate dining, senior centers, case management, transportation, and caregiver support.

State leaders can still revise the new formula that determines funding before it is finalized. Your voice can help protect services, ensure funding reflects Los Angeles County’s needs, and prevent harmful cuts.

WISE urges you to submit a public comment to the Department of Aging by 5:00 p.m. on May 12, 2026, via email at: CA2030@aging.ca.gov. Click here to access a template letter:https://www.wiseandhealthyaging.org/s/Letter-CDA-Funding-Formula.pdf

We'll also talk about how to access free resources, including those available from many public libraries, and explore websites offering tips and guides to creating your own digital family tree.
