It started with a lump. At just 37, Renee was healthy and years away from her first routine mammogram. But she trusted her instincts and pushed for answers. That decision saved her life.

The lump was breast cancer. Thanks to early detection and the care of Susan Montgomery, M.D., at Providence Swedish Cancer Institute in Seattle, Wash., Renee’s journey toward healing and hope began. 🩷

Santa Monica turned pink on Oct. 3 as Providence Saint John’s Health Center lit up in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Presented by Erewhon, the lighting ceremony kicked off a month dedicated to breast cancer awareness, early detection and hope.

We honored breast cancer thrivers, families and care teams, and featured moving patient stories and remarks from hospital leadership and community leaders. Santa Monica Mayor Lana Negrete joined the celebration, sharing her personal journey and message of resilience.

This evening wasn’t just about lighting up the sky — it was about shining a light on the silver linings that emerge in life’s toughest moments. From the strength of thrivers to the dedication of care teams and the unwavering support of our city, the event reflected the healing power of community and compassion.

We’re proud to partner with Erewhon in a shared mission to elevate wellness and compassion in our community. Together, we’re creating meaningful moments rooted in healing, hope and human connection.

Yesterday, we celebrated the relocation of our Saint John’s Physician Partners and The Doctors of Saint John’s Primary Care and Pediatric clinics to Santa Monica with a heartwarming open house. After losing our Pacific Palisades location to devastating fires earlier this year, this new clinic marks a significant step forward in healing and renewal for our community. The event brought together Providence leaders, caregivers, providers and community members ― including city and state officials ― in support of our Mission.

These state-of-the-art facilities are now open and ready to welcome both new and returning patients with the compassionate and comprehensive care our Palisades and Santa Monica communities know and trust.
